Question for Fedex verified shippers

TheCrimsonGhost Nov 03, 2010 03:58 PM

I just got verified to ship through Fedex today. I noticed that in the agreement line J says " Company acknowledges that all shipments tendered to Fedex under this agreement are for business to business delivery only. No residential deliveries are allowed under this agreement." How to I ship to customers then? Is there another verification I need to get to ship to people's houses?

Don't worry about it, it's just a formality! Ship away!

If they say it in the paper work that is what they mean. If you want to comply, and you really should, you can ship to a fed-x Kinko’s, or a regular fed-x office and your customer can pick up there. It's true many shippers are not paying attention to the "no residential shipping clause", but one day the box will be delivered to the wrong residence, it's going to get opened by the wrong person and FedEx will not be taking reptiles anymore.

Have been shipping and receiving that way for years and NEVER have had a problem!

How did you locate the proper office to send your shipping box to? It seems to be the biggest challenge to get someone to give me that answer.

I have spent alot of time talking to my Fed Ex rep about this issue.

Per your contract you can only ship to commercially zoned addresses is what that legaleeze means. So the best bet is to ship to the customer's closest Fed Ex hub, which not only gets it there sooner it's also safer for the animal as it isn't in a truck for extended periods of time. Another option is their place of work.

As for ignoring the contract and shipping residential anyway...all I can say is we have seen repster and SYR taken away as options for shipping snakes and how that has impacted the community. Losing Fed Ex would be humongous loss for everyone in an even bigger way since it is our only option left.

With all the bad publicity already out impacting reptile legislation I think getting a label of snake people as "ignoring" contractual agreements with shipping companies and the potential ramifications if something "happened" when not following the contract is a good way to get our rights/opportunities taken away in several possible ways.

As a seller I think it's important to follow any contracts with other businesses which can affect the reptile community as a whole.

As a buyer I believe the same thing can be said, buying from someone who follows their contract (or making the trip to your local hub for pickup if it is in question) you are reinforcing the market you are getting into, ensuring those options will be available to you in the future, not endorsing something that could harm the market and limit your options.

Hope that helps

I completely agree with john, if fedex does happen to catch on to everyone shipping the residential homes and decides to not allow anyone to ship animals anymore then there is no more options unless you yourself are going to drive the hundres of miles to deliver a snake... not to sound like a dick but if it happens all you have to blame is yourselfs for not taking the time to do things right. Then shipping a damn snake would have to become some type of illegal smuggling. I personaly am just really getting to building my collection and to have another hit on the reptile trade could start destroying the hobby for everyone just starting. Food for thought.

I negotiated rewording of that clause. Helps dealing wiht contracts for work. I next to impossible to guarantee the address shipped to is a "residence" from Fedex's definition. What happens when its a home business? Zoning varies by city. What about a farm?

Also, not all Fedex Kinkos accept animal packages.
