Can ANYONE help me out? Does anyone know?

Atomikk Sep 26, 2003 11:14 AM

I asked this earlier but I got zero responses. Either people dont know, or are just too lazy to write something down.

"My 1.3 year old female veiled has a broken toe. My initial reaction is to take her to the vet, but i remember my last visit. He misinformed me on many things that I saw on my chameleon (stress scars). So now I am too afraid on being misinformed again.

Has anyone dealt with broken toes on chameleons before? and what did you do? (dont state the obvious please) "

Thanks.

See my response to your earlier post. Not everyone is at their computer at the same time!

To answer to your post, she did climb alot and I remember she fell a few times pretty hard. But that was due to her spazziness, and her will to get out of her cage. (Its not the habitat she wants to get away from, she just wants to be outside..free). She seems fine right now when she walks and grips things. I did feel the point where the bone broke under her skin. It doesnt look infected, because it doesnt look swollen. But in case it does, what would you recommend? Are there any ointments that i can later her toe with, like any antiflammatory? Her nail from the broken toe fell off (from walking around) today.

Thanks for all your help Carlton.

Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response...I was gone this weekend. I don't think there is anything you could use safely. As long as the tip of bone isn't breaking the skin I'd leave it alone and give her really good nutrition and peace and quiet so she doesn't feel the need to crawl around a lot.

Sometimes a toe can swell from an infection. Can you post a picture? Is the toe hanging limp. I can't picture that since their toes are fused together. Is it just the tip of one toe?

its just 1 toe (front right hand), and yes i am 100% sure it is broken, because i felt it under my hand. The toenail was pointing in a weird direction, that is how i noticed the break.
