Just curious, BEL question

pardalis Nov 05, 2010 08:06 AM

I produced my first BEL this season and have noticed some different behavior from her compared to her clutchmates. Ever since they shed and were put in the hatchling rack with aspen the BEL buries and the butters do not, they stay on top. I thought this was interesting and she still prefers to stay under with her head somewhat exposed. Is it possible she realizes she was born with the wrong camo and more prone to predation? Just curious to what your thoughts and experiences have been on this.

I'm actually still laughing.
No, your snake is not aware that it is the "wrong" colour and is not afraid for it's life.

No I dont think she knows the difference at all. Some just prefer to feel more secure. I have hides in all my tubs and I still have hatchlings that prefer to burrow under the aspen under the hide. Some just dont, Some dont even hide they are out all day scoping things out.

Individual animals very... Good luck and congrats on your first BEL

The response helped me too, Thanks! I have some snakes that are always out and about then others that would rather be left alone and hide all the time. It helped me relax a little and just appreciate their individualism. : )

Just like that, nothing due to color etc...

The 3 BELs I hatched out from the same clutch this year are pork, they eat more than the others that also do eat quite well. Don't know why, may be jsut cause I put more attention to them at first ? or just happen to be like that.
