Parthenogenic Litters---Thanks

boawoman Nov 05, 2010 07:49 PM

I would like to thank Mike Weitzman and Jeff Ronne for advice and assistance and for getting me in touch with Dr. Booth so we could work together on this amazing project. This news is going around the world. It really has people talking. What??? We at some point may not need men??? Really, guys, I don't think you have to sweat it.

Thank you Sharon Moore. What's really ironic is that you had another Partho litter and I have had two that appear to be Partho litters since you had that first one. Very very strange. I'm not personally crazy about the whole Partho thing, but it sure is interesting isn't it?

Now your Boas are world famous!

Hey Jeff,
Many of us (I believe) have been having these litters over the years; and every time the collective "we" brought up the word "parthenogenesis", it was shot down by the forum. I eventually stopped mentioning this phenomenon and kept my mouth shut--at least until someone had the means to scientifically investigate the possibility.

Thoughts?

I don't doubt it Ron. I had one in each of the last two years but only one other litter I now think might have been a Partho litter. I do think it's pretty rare, but probably does happen several time in captive collections a year. Shoot! Maybe a dozen times per year. Who knows. We will be finding out about the two litters I have had born here that something was amiss in. I'll post it when it happens. I still have both of the Mothers too and will try to breed them again to see if I get normal litters or something screwy again like Sharon Moore has twice now with the same BW Caramel female.

No matter what has been said in the past, it's hard to argue with the science of genetics with Dr. Warren Booth. I know he is too foreign and too short, but he isn't short in the brains department! Go Warren!
