Do you think they are brumating

johnnyd5844 Nov 08, 2010 06:59 PM

Two of my females have been sleeping in their caves and not eating much. One of them is probably around 14 or 15 months old and has been doing this since August. The other one is smaller I dont know the age but around 13 inches and a little over 200 grams. They both just sleep in their caves all day and when I pull them out they will occasionally eat one dubia but thats only like once a week. I have been treating the bigger one with pancur and giving her vitamin b but have seen no change in their behavior. Do you think its brumation or should I be worried?

If a dragon is undergoing treatment it isn't a good idea to let them brumate.. are you making sure she's properly hydrated? panacur I believe can be very dehydrating.

yes I am giving her soaks every couple of days

soaks don't help with hydration..unless the dragon actually drinks from the water its soaking in. Giving water via an eye dropper so they can lap it up work much better and is more reliable.

My dragon never drinks when she's in water...she hates being in water...at best she just stands there looking at me. At worse she's trying to get out of the water.

I don't like the idea of a 200g. dragon brumating. But, sometimes you have no control especially with females. I have had this happen to me before but I was sure my animal was in good health.

You have to be real careful that you are not causing them to brumate. As room temperatures decline so will ambients and basking temperatures. Have you adjusted for this?

I actuilly put a slightly higher watt bulb in one of their tanks yesterday so I will see if that helps. I have 2 more dragons who have the same type of tanks and lighting and they don't seam to be showing signs of brumation
