Here are a few photos of my beloved Leucistic Texas Rat Snake I got from Doug (DMong) last year. Though you'd never know it from these photos, she's really quite a sweetheart.

Brief background info: When I was looking at her before I bought her Doug told me she could be a bit testy at times. She's never bit me, struck at me, etc... I've talked to Doug a few times since and told him how sweet she's been for me & he swears it's not the same snake. Ha! Ha!

While spending some time handling her last night I decided to take a few pics to show Doug. My wife held her for several minutes while I set up the photo-shoot scene. As you can tell from the first pic she was fine at the beginning. I guess she heard me mention Doug's name & then she put on quite a show.

All of her actions were posturing, not striking/lunging. She's a pretty good bluffer. After the photo-shoot she behaved good, as usual, when handled. Doug, I'm beginnin' to wonder if she just flat out doesn't like you. Ha! Ha! Many thanks! I'm tickled to death with her!

Hope ya'll enjoy the pics.

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed 'em. I gotta kick out of the way some of the pics came out as if the gator had a panicky grin, as in saying, "Oh, crap!"

Have a good one!

"That is exactly how I remember her too!"

I was laughing while takin' the pics, tellin' my wife that you'd say, "Now, THAT'S the snake I sold you."

Can you believe that's honestly the first time she's done that with me? In, what, a lil' over a year? She's slightly bowed up a few times when opening her tub but no head-spreading, mouth gaping and all like she did last night. I just reach on in & get her & she's perfectly fine. I've even used her in a few educational shows. Needless to say I never let anyone else handle her because I know she'll do the rat snake thing in unstable hands.

Good seeing ya again, Doug!
Take care!
Mike

Yeah, I am crackin' up just picturing you telling your wife that too..LOL!

You are right, the best way to deal with snakes that can get like that is simply go in and grasp them before they can have any say in the matter..LOL!

Also, that is excellent that you take her out to educate people from time to time as well,....and bravo! on nobody but YOU doing the handling..HAHAA!!

Anyway, take care Mike, and it was great hearing from you and seeing how well she is doing in your care. I couldn't be happier!

BTW, I showed your post to my girlfriend when she passed by me on the computer, and she was impressed as well with what she looks like in those pics.....albeit mean as the devil in a couple..LOL!

regards, ~Doug
