Will low 70's cause resp. infect.?

Amp Nov 11, 2010 08:05 PM

Has anyone's had any respiratory infections in their collections as a result of having temps in the low 70's during the cooling cycle (especially for a 6 week duration)?

I already have males courting with temps in the mid 70's and was wondering if I should drop the temps down or maintain them here. I read somewhere that low temps were necessary for males to produce viable sperm, to the contrary, I've also read that people don't cool their animals and still have success. I'd like to do this the safest way possible for the animals, but I'd also like to do everything in my power to help in the breeding process. I'd appreciate any advice or experience you can share.

Thanks,
Anthony-

I don't really cool my Boas . I would imagine exposing Boas to low
70's for more than a couple days would be very risky.

I can't believe there would be any place in any South Boas range
that reaches low of 70- 74 for any extended period !

I greatly appreciate it. I won't drop them below 75 at night.

My cooling target is 70 on the button I've been cooling my boas to 70 since I have been doing this. I only have had one male who got an RI every single year the minute the temps dropped below 80. Other than him, I have never had a problem. Good luck. Mike Panichi

If I can get down there,I try and shoot for 70 nightime temps and 80 daytime temps during the peak of my cooling cycle. Having the ten degree difference is more important to me then how low I get. Best of luck. Mike Panichi

I have night drops set for 76/78 during breeding season.... but I don't cool my boas. Like Larry said.... they don't have these temps in the wild..... so it doesnt seem like a good idea to do it in captivity
