Looking for input on Mojave ID

John_Yezbak Nov 13, 2010 10:18 AM

Hello everyone,
I got this guy in trade several months ago. The person I got him from told me he is a Mojave or Pastel Mojave but I suspect he may have changed hands several times and his origin and true genetics are now lost. I have looked at dozens of pics. of Mojaves, pastels and pastel mojaves and none of them seem to look anything like him. He is actually lighter than he appears in these photos. Very pale, not much yellow and lots of blushing.
He is currently about 1100 grams and has been actively breeding with a normal female for about 3 weeks now so maybe the results of that pairing will shed some light on his genetics.

I know there are plenty of folks out there with alot more experience with Mojaves than I, so what do you think? Is this amount of blushing normal?

Thanks for any input...John

Not normal but it is a mojave. I have a line like Brian of FGS that I call buckskins and most of mine out of this line come out looking like yours. I have to take pics of some animals tonight to put on the market, and I will shoot some pics of a mojave or 2 from my buckskin line for you to compare. thanks

Will,

I too look forward to seeing photos of your buckskin line mojaves.

I hope you have a great season.

Looks like it could be a "Pastave" to me! If you do indeed breed it to a normal, if it is a "Pastave", you'll get (depending on # of eggs) mojos and pastels! Then you'll know! Good Luck!

John,

I agree with Will.

Your mojave is anything but normal.

It should produce some very nice mojaves and mojave crosses for you.

He looks a lot like the Green Blush Mojaves that I produce from my line. Here are a few pictures of two different ones

Just for a comparison here is a photo of one of my Pastel Mojaves also from my line of Green Blush Mojaves.

Very nice animal you have there. Good luck with him.

Thanks to all for the input! I really appreciate your help.
He definitely bears a strong resemblance to Albey's green blush line.
Needless to say, I was very pleased when I opened the box and got my first look at him. As I mentioned, he is courting a normal now but I also have a young pinstripe I hope to pair him with in upcoming seasons.

Thanks again and good luck!
John

When did people start naming mojaves something differnt just because they were a little lighter or darker. They are still just mojaves. They still make the same offspring when bred to normals or other mojave, butter, lesser combos. they are pretty but i think the naming thing is a little silly. If i am wrong then please what can i name mine because he is far from normal and his offspring are all striped and very dark. I am thinking Espresso Mojaves.

My buckskin mojaves are not normal. They produce a mix of regular slate colored mojaves, and they also produce more buckskins. It is a line I have been working on selective breeding for some time. If you check out Brian Gundy of For Goodness Snakes he has several selectively bred lines of mojaves. As far as I know my line, and Brian's lines are the only ones that will breed true (or the only two that have invested such work into mojaves), but we really need others to work on the projects too so we can uncover more. Your male I wouldnt call a normal mojave either. It has some sick blushings, and if you could reproduce the results (and put the work into selectively breeding them) you too could have your own line of mojaves. You think it is silly to name new lines of them, but why is that? If someone wants something other than a normal mojave (as far as color and pattern) it gives them more options and having our own separate lines of something other than the normal sets our mojaves apart from the rest. I know my intentions, and Brian is a wonderful guy too, so don't think we are creating these to try and over inflate the prices of mojaves. We are just passionate about producing top notch animals and mojaves hold a heavy spot in my heart.
