Interesting keeper baby

SlytherLyn Nov 13, 2010 10:20 PM

My Blizzard male was 66% poss het Anery Lavender. When paired up with my Anery Lavender female I was disappointed to not get any Lavenders or Aneries so he didn't prove out for either of his poss het traits. I did however hatch out several Albinos, a total surprise as I didn't know my female Anery Lav was het for Albino. I had no plans to keep back any normals this year, but one of the female normals hatched with such an interesting pattern I just had to keep her. I don't know how she ended up so neat. Her brothers and sisters were all normal patterned. I kept back one of the surprise albino males too. Both are het Lavender, Anery, Charcoal, and the Normal is het Albino. My Blizzard is proven het Diffused so both babies are also 50% poss het Diffused.

Here is a pic of the Albino male, the interesting Normal female, and a pic of their parents. Any idea why the Normal hatched with such interesting pattern? Is it possible she could pass the pattern on to her babies when she grows up?

Beautiful Corns1 I don't know if that would be something that will pass down but it's worth trying. I was gonna say it looks Aztec-ish, but it is unique.

For some reason, aberrant saddles are actually fairly common in animals from lavender lines.

I'd call that a "zigzag" or "zipper" corn. I've produced them from time to time from a variety of morphs, from a variety of bloodlines. Below are two that I produced this year from normally patterned Reverse Okeetee Corns:

This does not appear to be a simple recessive genetic trait, but in my experience pairing two togather will give you a decent percentage (over 50%) of zigzag offspring.
