Baby won't eat

janome Nov 15, 2010 06:03 AM

My baby hatched Sept 12. Shed about a month later. Has eaten 3 times an now he won't eat again. Its been 4 weeks since his last pinky. Nothing has changed in his tank. He's got hiding places, water, fake plant. He is active an I see him drink water but he won't eat again. I thought he might be going into a shed cycle but haven't seen any shed. I've been keeping him at room temp which is 76-77 or so degrees. So I dont' know why he's not eating. Any advise? Thank you.

The snake needs heat. Room temperature is not good enough. It may have worked when room temperature was warmer, but now that it's getting colder outside, the ambient room temperature dropping.

You need to get an undertank heat pad and have a warm area in your snake's cage in the mid to upper 80s.

Tim's right, temps in the 70's is not enough. The snake probably senses the onset of winter also. If you make one end warmer, and put the water bowl on the colder side, your snake should start eating again.

I would have to agree with both you and Tim there. Also, a very small container would help too. It probably doesn't feel very secluded and hidden either, and therefore might not feel secure enough to feed in conjunction with the temps being too low on a portion of the enclosure.

My baby STILL won't eat. I've got a heating pad unter his tank. He has water, hides. He's active an I've seen him drink water but he wont' eat. I don't know what else to do. Today I fed all my other snakes...they all ate. Left his pinky in his cage for a while. Checked on him an he was up along the edge of his 5 gallon tank. Took the pinky an teased him with it but he wouldn't take it.
