What's wrong with him?

PsyTech Nov 15, 2010 09:54 AM

Hello,

I was taking care of my snake this weekend and saw that he had some problem with his nose. I'm not quite sure what is wrong with it.. but my gut instinct tells me something bad.

Thanks for any insight or help.

Looks like a bad abcess.... I would get it to a vet

What can cause this? I usually wear medical latex gloves when touching him, and feed him frozen thawed rats. I've only had him like a month or so.

I do notice he snaps against the glass doors to his enclosure.. did he break something when he did that?

Possibly.... it could be because of a fractured tooth or a tooth infection.... it could be from trauma associated with striking the glass..... snakes dont get liquid abcesses like we do... It is usually a firm cheesy like substance... so you can't really lance it and drain....

I had a retic with a large abcess in her mouth, and I had to pull one of her teeth and pull oall of the cheesy stuff out with forceps... But I had to borrow some isoflourane gas to do it...I dont suggest trying to pull a 13 foot retics tooth without anaesthesia..LOL

Most of these things can slowly heal on their own.....but if it starts preventing them from eating then you have a problem,,,,

I still would suggest having it looked at
