Surprise... Axanthic Mojaves

aer Nov 15, 2010 11:57 PM

Axanthic Mojave Surprise...
We picked out a baby ball years ago because she was different looking, she just really stood out from the other 500 African Imports.
We grew her up and bred her with our Mojave. They produced 5 eggs, they were all Mojaves, but one male looked similar to the mom as a baby.

We grew him up and did some line breeding and produced what appears to be 2 axanthic Mojaves, 2 BEL, and one normal mojave. I guess she was het. Axanthic.

Still have to prove things out they just hatched this weekend.

Gotta Love African Babies and Line Breeding..

I will get some pics up of the whole clutch after they shed.

If someone were to breed 2 axanthic mojaves together would the axanthic BELs turn out white???????

thats deffinatly the question I would like an answer to.

This clutch almost matches the Albino Mojave clutch, very similar results, could there be a super in the clutch? (wishful thinking, but ...)

Albino Mojave results:
1 mojave - male
2 albino mojaves 1.1
2 lucys - 2 males (BEL & REL (super))

Axanthic Mojave Results:
1 mojave - male
2 axanthic mojaves 1.1
2 lucys - 2 males

That is too uncany that they are almost identical in morph and sex ratio........ is it possible that the super axanthic mojave is one of the BEL produced???? you never know.

I'm likin' axanthic combos a lot. Would be kick ass if they held that color into adult hood.

aer Nov 16, 2010 09:25 AM

I think that would be a big positive for the axanthic morph if they kept their color as adults...It would grab alot more attention. This is the first time I have delt with the axanthics, its just never been something that grabbed my attention.

Recently their have been a couple new axanthic crosses that caught my eye, well see what develops.

vpi has a new line they are calling the black axanthic and they hold their color with no browning out.
now the fun begins with seeing if your line is compatable with any other lines!!!!

p.s. i hope your line proves to be as nice as their new line or better.

Thanks...wow thats really cool a line that holds its color. That would be oustanding. I have some work to do to figure out what line this is or even if it is compatable with any of the exsisting lines, who knows it could be new...i know wishful thinking but ya never know, my luck seems to have been pretty good this season.

Watever Nov 16, 2010 08:27 PM

Was the pairing of this

the normal mother back to the mojave son ?

or was it the mojave son to one of his sister ?

I don't understand where the BEL come from.

love this world, don't hate it.

We bred the male mojave from the first clutch she produced to a female mojave from the next years clutch. Same mom, different dads, pairing is from consecutive years clutches.

So yes 2 mojaves with related genetics.
