My Bearded Dragons stats, is this good???

Lizardfreak89 Feb 08, 2003 11:41 AM

My bearded male dragon (Linx) weighs 44 grams and he is one and a half years old. He is about 8 inches. I think hes too skinny and hes been eating a lot, so what can i do to increase his "bulk". Also, does anyone know where I can find a cheaper female bearded. I bought my male for $170 and I think I may have paid to much! Please help!

44 Grams is the weight of a large anole. My beardie is 22" 580 grams ( a little over a pound)

Nope, I just weighed him, and it says 44 grams, maybe that was ounces, I dont know, I think it was grams. Maybe my scales broken. Oh, youve got a big lizard, what do u keep him in. My beardy (linx) is (right now) being kept in a 40 gallon, dont reckon mom will spring fo ranything bigger, I might build him a nice 120 gallon for breeding, when I get a female

44 ounces would be over three pounds that would be the biggest beardie in history. I just read yours is only 8" that seems very small for an 18 month old dragon. Are you certain of his age? A dragon of that age should be heavier.

I keep him in a 70 gallon tank where he lives happily. When i am home, he is usually out of the enclosure.

Ok, THen he woul donly be grams (lol). Yea, when I asked the guy at the petranch (store I bought him) he said he was 1 and almost a half years old. Ive had him for a few days only, got him for my birthday (febuary 3)

couchj317 Feb 08, 2003 11:50 AM

at 1 and a half years they should be full grown (16-24" If he looks skinny then you should take him to a vet and find out what the problem is. If he has parasites they buy some parazap from www.babybeardeddragons.com it gets rid of parasites gently and increases apetite. Are you supplementing with calcium and using uv lights. If not get a 100 watt mercury vapor light to increase calcium intake. Good luck and keep us posted.

Lizardfreak89 Feb 08, 2003 11:54 AM

Yea, I have him under a 60 watt uv light, think I should go 100 watts? Also, for his calcium intake, I sprinkle calcium powder on top of the crix (five week old) before I give it to him. He dosnt really like his veggies, the crix end up eating it. Are baby pinkie mice a good source of calcium. Hes never had them before, maybe Ill get one if u guys say its good. Ill post a pic when my dad gets a digital camera!

Michael972 Feb 08, 2003 12:02 PM

At his size no way. Don't even attempt to give him baby pink mice. Not for an 8" dragon.

60 watt bulb I doubt is putting out enough heat. What are his cage temps?

At 18 months he should be acquiring a taste for greens as well. Are you certain of his age?

Ok, no pinkie for him then. Thanx for all your help

Michael972 Feb 08, 2003 12:06 PM

If it is, I doubt the salesperson knew anything about the reptile, including its age.

Yes i agree..At a year n' a half he should way a lot more..one of my beardies is 5-6 months old and weighs 133 grams..man..maybe you can go complain to him and try to get your money back or a somewhat refund..

Ripping off would suggest something intentional. I think it is far more likely that the salesperson had no knowledge whatsoever of bearded dragons. In any event, I find it highly unlikely that a 18 month old bearded dragon--even a severly malnourished one--could weigh only 44 grams.

I wish we could see a photo of the guy. Something tells me he is much, much, much younger. Chain pet stores seem to sell Juvies, not adults.

I would not take him back. He might end up dying in the petstore. With you he has a chance for a long, healthy life.

Dragon. Rankins are usually around 10 inches STL (snout to tail) length when full grown.

My Rankins is 134 grams and 12.5 inches STL.

meandmydragon Feb 08, 2003 01:42 PM

what is a rankins dragon??

eva Feb 08, 2003 11:39 PM

The official name is pogona henrylawson. It is a smaller version of a bearded dragon. Average adult size is around 10 inches. Quite similar in personality. I don't know why they are not as popular.
