Pastel VPI Sugars

chad-hulker Nov 18, 2010 11:31 AM

I got a chance to take some outdoor photos yesterday and finally captured some good color on these girls. These are from my VPI sugar male x pastel female. There is some debate weather the sugar and calico is the same morph, but this cross looks quite a bit different than the other pastel calicos i've seen. What do you all think?

Female 1 at 4.5 months old

Female 3 at 7 weeks old

Thanks for looking!

I'd have to agree! The pastel and super pastel calicos I've seen, have more of a "yellowish washed-out" look to them! Actually, I like both!

That is a hard one to call.

In my opinion I think sugars and calicos are the same thing. Calicos/sugars vary a lot in appearance high to low white, background color from darker to lighter kind of like the variety in pastels you have bright beautiful ones and darker ones. Both morphs having a great range in color variety may be a lot of the reason the pastel sugars/calicos you see vary so much from one to another. Line breeding is a beautiful thing and you have some amazing animals there!!
