Lend a beardie lover a hand?

felissa Sep 26, 2003 03:20 PM

I am torn between two colour morphs that I want to get. The leucistic, and the bloods. I've been lurking about Dragons Den for a while, and honestly can't make up my mind. And no, I can't get both. My s.o. has a "normal", but I'm not planning on breeding being a reason for whichever choice, just another interesting friend to add to my household. I'm a sucker for dramatic colours. (you should see my hair, hehe)

I was wondering if anybody would post photos, or links to photos/websites/photo albums, of babies, juvies, and adults of those morphs to help me in the decision making process.

I'm leaning towards the leucistic, mostly because it seems to have the most predictable colour outcome. White. It's just the colour change on any dragon as they age that throws me off a bit.

Our Ken'aku was just a grey and brown baby when my s.o. bought him two years ago, but he's now got a dusting of orange in places (beard, above eyes, around shoulders). I don't have any pics on this computer, may have to upload one later tonight just so I can show him off a bit.

thank you!

It's short for "significant other". I don't care for the term "boyfriend". And he doesn't fall into a stronger category such as "fiancé" or "husband". "Lover" sounds like a romance novel, and "partner" sounds like we're in a business together. So I stick to s.o. It's a happy medium.

Cuz if I refer to him as my "snugglywugglybearcupcake" he gets miffed. hehehehe.

More than you ever wanted to know, I'm sure

me? i would go for the red, a great place for red dragons if you are nervous about the whole coloring up with age thing, is www.jerseydragons.com Chris has amazing red dragons, i dont know what he has availiable right now but always worth a look.

also check out www.dachiu.com/adults.html perhaps light with a splash of color is your thing? they have some hypo pastels that are just awesome.... just awesome...but then go to the next page, there is a GG cross there that might be what you are looking for, nice color on that little one just trying to help you broaden your search... good luck! let us know what you decide

Thanks for the links! I'm not looking for specific babies for purchasing just yet. More finding the different breeders and testing the consistency of what they come up with. But those are on my list of what to watch for.

My strategy: I mark certain sites and breeders that I want to keep track of, and watch their breeding projects. I tend to lurk in the background a lot, for extended periods of time. And then pounce when I see something that is fantastic. I've been lurking for a while, and I'm just fascinated by some of the pictures of reds that seem so crimson in colour rather than dark orange or pink.

The reds make me nervous because they just don't seem reliable where the colour is concerned. Whereas I don't think you can come up with too varied a "pure" leucistic. My s.o. likes the leucistic as well.

Keep in mind almost all if not all of these "morphs" do not breed true. The leucistic is supposed to so if you wanted to produce the white dragons a pair should produce 100% leucistic offspring.

yah, that's why I'm trying to find as many sites/pictures as I can for comparison to see who's line is stronger in colour.

thanks for your input!

Ken'aku as a tiiiiny baby. Hard to believe he was EVER that size. hehe. Sorry for the bad quality, it was a disposable camera.

As of yesterday. You can sortakindanotreally make out the orange.

Best pic of the orange to date, I think, even though it's still washed out. His whole beard is orange as is around his eyes. The rest of him is that grey brown colour though. He doesn't much care for the red couch. He can't hold on to it very well. I love that couch though, we found it on the side of the road.

enjoy!
