Great American Teach-in BP Presentation

djslurp1200 Nov 20, 2010 03:29 PM

I was very fortuneate enough to be able to go ahead and visit an elementary school to talk about one of if not my deepest passions... Ball Pythons!

It was awesome and while I was originally scheduled for only 1 class I was such a hit among the faculty and students they just kept asking me to do more and more classes which I was just so excited to be doing whatever presentations I was able to do... it was truly one of my greatest life experiences and something I will never forget!!

I ended up doing 7 kindergarden classes and 1 5th grade class and man were the 5 graders smart and absorbant of information!!

I started talking basic genetics with some of the kids and I had kids asking about what certain genes together would produce and they were so stoked!!

Anyways... onto the pics.. in no particular order!

With another teacher helping out during the "Pet a snake" part of the presentation. That teacher actually had a bearded dragon in her room and a teacher across the hall had 2 leopard gecko's and a ball python in her room. It was AWESOME!!

All of the kids in each class asked me to kiss a the snake on the lips... when I did it everyone just screamed and thought I was the man....

Showing off an empty "hatched" snake egg.

Thanks for viewing my thread, it was Soooo much fun!

That's fantastic. I've given a few "snake" presentations over the years, mostly at my kids school classes and found much the same thing, that most kids like snakes and want to know all about them ....

Keep up the good work !

cheers, John

those kids look enthralled. It's always good to see snakes being showed off in a positive light like that and giving kids real information on snakes instead of negative media fear mongering.

It was alot of fun and possibly one of my best experiences so far from being a part of the hobby...

The kids were definitely very excited to learn about Ball Pythons as were the teachers. They asked me to come back and do another presentation in December as well so I'm looking forward to it!

Great job! I would definately omit the "snake kiss" though! Probably a better idea to teach them to keep reptiles away from their mouths! The last thing you need is some kid getting salmonella or even getting bit in the face cause "the snake guy" did it!

Ya I just got a little carried away, but thanks though!

I'll be sure to take some more pics of the next presentation. I'll have to bring a little bit more of a variety of morphs with me next time as well as they really were intrigued that there were so many differen't genes out there.

Excellent work. I love to see the "genuinely interest" look on kids that age (when it is something good for them of course). They were definitely listening and watching closely.
