Setting Up A FBT Tank

JoshG Sep 26, 2003 04:10 PM

I am new here and I am getting back into the hobby and I was wondering if anyone had any links to sites that had a variety of ideas on how to set up the terrariums, including photos and stuff. I have a pretty good idea on what I want but just want to see what else is out there. Also, anyone know of any sites that show differant ways to create waterfalls and rivers. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Hey I here are some tips. Youre setup should be 75% aqudic and 25% land. in youre land part u should have moss and a smooth rock you should also have some plase for ur Fbt to hide. in youre aquadic part u should have large river rocks and it should be about 4-5 inches deep. for every gallon u should have 1 toad but for like a 10 gal u can have 3 toads. another important thing is a small pump to filter the water due to the fact that FBT's produce toxins and the woter should be cleaned every week even if u have a pump.

Heres mine, its a 29 gallon tank with 4 fbt's, I should use my background, but... I want to make a more natural back ground instead. But they do great.

I love your tank .How do u keep it clean?Toads produce alot of waste do you tear down the whole tank?I use pothos to but in raised clay pots and regular baby food glass jars hydrophoniclly grown just water.
I would like to use a more natural look but keeping the soil clean might be a nightmare. My current set up I use soil which I just replace for the toads and the plants are in elevated pots.
Again love your set up nice natural look.

I dont really have a problem with keeping the water clean, when it evaporates i add more, but it seems the plants do a good job keeping it clean, they almost filter it through the gravel, Im not sure, my amonia levels stay fine, Usually I clean every 1-2 months though, probally today too.

My tank is set up almost the exact same way except I have my pothos on the land part and I have three back drops. I only had one back drop at first but after my bearded dragon kept seeing the toad on the same side that his tank was on he was wanting to go over there and eat the firebelly; so then I added a background to that side. After noticing that my firebelly was always tring to get out of the tank on the side there was no background I finally put one on there. I have two in my tank now and one of them just excaped outta the tank from climbing on the glass. I have no clue how he got out but after adding the background(backdrop) to that other side my other firebelly does not even try to climb up on the glass now. I wish I would of figured this out before my other one got out and probaly got eatin my my cats.

But my tank is a 20 with pothos growing on or in the gravel side or land area if you want to referr to it that way. I have an underwater filter with charcoal filter inside to help keep the amonia levels down. I change the water 100% every week
