Pete, what you and this over emotional anthropomorphizing poster are mistaking for intelligence is just observation. Diurnal hunters HAVE to be more alert, and this alertness and its consequences you are thinking are emotion are not. Expressive? Sure. Observant? Of course. But waxing poetically about cave man drawings compounds the problems associated when trying to compare observations to emotions. Being HIGHLY observant as they are, certainly they may notice more things(yes even faces)but their reactions to observed stimulus are just that. They dont demonstrate congnitive ability which is paramount for any emotion right? Sorry.
Jeff
Can't you post a message without the name calling? Give it a try and maybe we will all learn something instead of it turning into an argument. Thanks for your opinion less the insult.

Peter, I read and reread it and I cant find a bad name or an insult. Help me out here.....
Jeff
To start off a conversation by calling someone "over emotional anthropourphizing"(what ever the hell that is) poster does not sound very polite to me.

Geez Pete, sorry for the BIG words. Big words arent necessarily bad words, in fact most bad ones have 4 letters right? The big word means giving animals human qualities. I think anyone reading that post would accept the poster was zealously giving snakes human qualities. You will notice that was not a judgemental pro or con just simply observational.
Jeff
OK. I'am not educated enough to know the BIG words, but your reply would have sounded less antagonistic without the "over emotional ----------" phrase in it.
If I owe you an appology, so be it, but it just seems to be your style to come on a bit strong at times.

Pete, if you owe me an apology that was a wicked funny way of going about it dont you think??? Or is that YOUR "style"??
I never apologize.
I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am.
Must be tired... that's just cracking me up... if I only had Doug's abilities with emoticons to finish that off I do believe I'd die laughing.
just rambling thoughts,no pretty writings....
they know their owner
they know their cage(smell yes)
they know where they are, and they find water, food, brumation chambers/hibernaculum year after year....
they know each bird house in any given area they frequent/and nest heavy tree/bush
they know if the water bowl is empty to lay in it ,not to wander and look for water...it will come...
they know to wait in the food bowl also...
they know the sound of other cages being opened....and what it brings.......mmmmmmmmmm....
they know to eat certain food items at certain times of the year...and they are raised in little boxes not the wild...that's weird....
.......I could go on but I'm in a hurry......LOL....you get it....
......snakes can remember things we don't give them credit for.....and yes...they wander aimlessly around looking for food in our minds....???...maybe...they actually do at times?.....maybe there are wanderers and homebodies.....(proven in 3 toed box turtle studies...)....
