Idea's on what to purchace

724hp Nov 22, 2010 11:53 AM

Hello all,

I've decided to add a few ball pythons to my collection of kings, corns, dumerils, and carpets. I've got a rack and some boaphiles on the way so it's time to pick out some snakes. the problem i'm having is there are countless ball python morphs and i don't really know what all of my options are.

i'm for sure going to get an albino male and het female, a 1.1 pair of mojaves, and a male bumble bee and 2 normal females.

anyone have any ideas for some other morphs i should check into? nothing to crazy expensive, just some mid level morphs that should be in a collection. i'm not looking to get rich with these snakes, just hopefully pay for mice and aspen.

any input will be appreciated.

I like Cinnamons/Black Pastels, Ghosts, and Pinstripes. Really you should go with whatever you like best though. If you like Pieds, maybe get a het female to raise up, then you can always get a male Pied later (or a male Pastel Het Pied or some other visual morph Het Pied). Since females take longer to get to the point where they are breedable, when I want to start a project I get the females first and males later.

thanks for the input.

i had forgotten about the black pastels and they are one of my favorites. there are so many cool morphs it makes it hard to make a decision... at least for me. Its hard to keep track of not just whats out there, but what is currently in my price range or will be in a year or two.

If you are looking to get in it for a future of breeding I wouldnt get so many normal females. if you are spending the cash for morphs then get a few morph females. pastels are fairly reasonable.

#1 rule- get stuff you like : )

#2 rule- see rule #1!

Albinos are a great choice. I like Lessers and Pins a ton as well. They make for quick results, and lots of great combos. Everybody also seems to like Pieds, including me.

A pair of Mojaves? For what? If you are after an Ivory, ok. But Lessers make cleaner white snakes, and they are at a great price. And a single Mojave makes for cooler combo possibilities.

Normal females are fine, but some Het females might get you further along quicker, assuming you breed them Albino x Het Albino, or along those lines.

I would suggest a strong plan and strong focus, based around 2, maybe 3 mutations. You don't want to get too convoluted too fast : )

Best of luck to you.

As many pastel females as possible.

thanks for the input, everyone.

i've changed up my idea a little bit, i think for the better. anyone think this is a good way to start, if not, what should i change?

male albino, female het albino
male mojave, female lesser
male bumblebee, female albino
male lesser het pied, female het pied
2 extra female pastels
1 extra female pastave

i like all these morphs and can get them all for very reasonable prices.
