black guttering

Rhendrickson Nov 22, 2010 06:41 PM

man this stuff is awesome, I noticed my monitor didn't ever seem to use its basking spot and chose the bottom of the retick stack which was not any where near the basking temp. I put guttering that runs along the back of the enclosure from the cool side then elevates near the basking spot, Temps range inside the tubing from 110 to 78 and the monitor is definitely using it and seems to be much more active. The hot side of the guttering curves towards the entrance which seems to be a good spot to tong feed. Well I'm new to this so I thought I would post a pic of the enclosure of that will house my 17 inch dumerils untill january. Any suggestions let me know.

Good idea with the black corrigated pipe. I have used it for years with my Heloderma Horridum Exasperatum
Not only can you heat it with a light bulb to create your hot spots but you can easily wrap pipe heat cable around it [like I did] and plug it into a dimmer to regulate the heat. My female Beaded lizard use to lay on the hot section for a few weeks or so prior to laying her eggs and after eating to, she seemed to feel very secure in there. Actually heat cable is better for heating then the bulbs are because you can create the hot spot right under there guts where the heat is needed most without the risk of melting the pipe by useing a bulb.
Good luck, Bob
