adult male brooksi

DMong Nov 23, 2010 06:12 PM

Just weighed the 2007 male, and he is a nice robust 1480 grams(3.26 lbs.). I also took a very accurate measurement, and he is exactly 63 inches long. If he was obese, he would no doubt be a bit heavier, but I prefer to maintain him at a nice healthy weight, as opposed to seeing how heavy and dumpy I can get him. Obese snakes don't live nearly as long anyway, and he certainly isn't going to need extra weight for laying eggs as a female would.

This guy is just large, nice and full, and very healthy in my opinion

Now that is one beautiful snake. Huge and probably still growing. Nice beast. Hope he produces many progeny for you.

DMong Nov 23, 2010 07:32 PM

Thanks!,..

Yes, he is surely still growing, and he has already produced some stunning offspring that are now yearlings, and REALLY coloring up insanely too!

Here are just two of them when they were only 12 months old....

Yeah, that's cool. Do they come in dark green and yellow?

DMong Nov 23, 2010 08:42 PM

Thanks!,...

Yeah, here is a better pic of one of the yellow/green yearling females they produced. The other "in-hand" pic in my other post is a bit washed-out from the flash. This pic is a bit more accurate as far as her coloration goes, but even so, she is much more vivid in person.

Wow, that snake is gorgeous!!! Is that what you might expect to find in a South Florida brooksi or is this the result of selective breeding?

"Wow, that snake is gorgeous!!! Is that what you might expect to find in a South Florida brooksi or is this the result of selective breeding?"

Thanks bro,..

Well, there are definitely some awesome looking yellow brooksi here and there out there in Florida, but if I found one just like him in nature I would do freakin back-flips for three city blocks..LOL!

These were line-bred for some years from snakes that originated down in southern Miami/Dade from years ago from the old canal areas. Many of these snakes from this particular bloodline have VERY substantial amounts of red as hatchlings that gradually give way to their adult yellow coloration. Not all are alike though, and there is some definite variation.

And of course, the "sulfurs" originating from the Hillsborough,Florida area are very unique too, and noted for their strong yellow coloration. But they are indeed different from these.

Wow, very nice Brooks. That will be my next king I get.
Thou, I really love the white sided speckled. But that's probable out of my price range, if you can even get one?

DMong Nov 24, 2010 10:25 AM

Thanks!,....

Yeah, the "whitewall" speckled kings are pretty darn cool too. Those actually originated from a single wild-caught male specimen from way back in August of 1985, found in Carter County, Missouri.

That is one nice looking snake, and healthy and productive too.

DMong Nov 24, 2010 10:33 AM

Thanks a lot Dennis!,....he sure is. He's pretty damn clumsy with his intertwining and aligning his huge long tail just right with the much stubbier female's tail, but he manages to "score" eventually..LOL!

WOW! Great looking Brooksi Doug. I've always loved those animals, and you've got some great looking clean animals.

You and Rusty should treat yourselves to a rejuvenating retreat to Rock Haven spa in Kansas bro.

Thanks Dell!,....I appreciate the kind words bud.

But about the spa....since Rusty and I both live here in central Florida, wouldn't it be much cheaper to simply go to a LOCAL "massage" parlor?..LMAO!

Holy hell man... is that the lil' guy you used to always post pics of??? With everything out there just a plain ol' smokin' brooksi just blows me away. Perhaps it's a FL thing, I dunno. Plus it's always a plus to have a garbage disposal laying around... beautiful snake Doug.
