just wanted to share my joy quickly

somegirl Sep 26, 2003 05:05 PM

im sure youre all thrilled to know that my first dragon, acquired 6/21 who seemed to refuse to grow through august, is now 4.5 inches snout to vent and 10 inches total. when i got her, she was 2.5 snout to vent and 6 in total. i dont have a scale, but she's noticably heavier now. *breathes sigh of relief*

cant wait to try the parazap on her

now just gotta get kellen eating (following your previously given suggestions of course!)

and kaipo cant wait for the girl and hopeful-girl to get big enough for him!

this is the first picture of my little girl, way back when. thanks for putting up with me!

i love her charcoal coloring.. glad she is doing well

just a suggestion, is that calci sand? bad stuff, might want to keep her on papertowels till she is older (10-12 inches) then you can switch to something like silica free playsand if you want to use sand

hehe all my dragons are so different, i love it!

yup, that was calci sand right when i first got her. i believe you were one of the oens that told me to get rid of it, so i did. all my children are on paper towels, although im thinking of putting my biggest, 10 month and 14 inches Kaipo on playsand.

btw, how old would you estimate dulce to be? it didnt occur to me to ask when i got her

i think you could probably make a guess that at 6 inches when you got her she may have been maybe 4-8weeks old depending, they all grow so differently, so just add the weeks from the date you got her. sorry i cant be more exact, at 10 inches she could be anywhere from 3-5 months i would guess, yes some dragons are that small at 5 months

yeah i know theres a big variation, i just had absolutely no clue about her cage whatsoever she may a little older than average because she didnt shed or noticably grow for the longest time.

but as long as she's healthy and happy now, im happy too

as always, thanks for your comments!

in you when we first started out with dragons. You obiously care very much and will make a good beardie slave.

Great to hear your little one decided to cooperate grow and I am sure that the other one will come around given time.

Even now with as much as I think I have learned about baby dragons, we have a rough first 1-2 weeks when some come in. We have tried to understand what in the process of changing homes/enviroments that affects them and with the ones that go out adapt them to a routine that will avoid the stress as much as possible. The ones that have gone out the past few months, even shipped have done well so hopefully we have it down pat now.

JoelR's little girl CC (Carbon Copy) was the only one of about a dozen that came in this year and did not have a hard time. One I got at Daytona last month still acts like he thinks I am prepping him to eat for my dinner. He will eat now at least, but has his quirks... I can not be in the room or my back has to be too him, they have to be in a bowl thats big enough for him to crawl into and sit and there has to be greens in the bowl too..... You don't want to know how long it took me to figure out what would make him eat.

He hissy at me still and opens his mouth, except when I lift his basking platform with him on it and put him on the bed, then he will stay next to me and watch TV...... strange little beardie. When we have to clean his tank or get near him, that mouth come open so we stick in a cricket, greens or a dropper of water in, he blinks like what was that!!! He is still beautiful and we call him Donnie, but maybe it should be Grumpy!
