Radiated Origins, Who Has Insight?

Ameron Nov 25, 2010 12:50 PM

I know that this is reaching, but any clues help, and many of you may have some clues. Some of you have profound clues.

My two attempts for more info from the Breeder were unsuccessful, so I’m casting out my net to see if I can catch something valuable. Funny how the “contact me if you have any questions” before the sale becomes *No Reply* after the sale.

Radiateds originate from a wide ranging region of SE Asia, but most recent imports have likely come from a couple of sources.
I’ve heard that those imported before captive breeding became common were likely from Vietnam or Indonesia. (Some may have been from India.)

A local Vietnamese man who has reptile importer contacts says that most Radiateds imported from Vietnam were for feeders for Cobras, and that Indonesian imports are likely the source of most captive-bred specimens.

Mine is from a large breeder in Naples, FL. Likely a 2008 hatchling; he’s about 36 inches long. Herpers with insight, what is your guess for likely country or region of origin?

0.1 Lampropeltis getula californiae (Los Angeles County Coastal Banded morph)
1.0 Coelognathus radiata (stock origin unknown)

It would be impossible to say with any certainty but it's also just as likely they could have originated in Thailand, Borneo/Java or even Vietnam via China.

I would say they are most probably originally from indonesia, based on when they seemed to be appearing on the market and the state of the trade at that time. You might ask Tom Crutchfield if he has any thoughts on this topic.

His website is down, I've tried many times to link, session hangs up.

Yahoo search only finds one other contact reference at Everglades Day Safari. I hesitate to contact him there by email, as it is am info-specific email address.

Know best way to contact Tom now?

(I'll keep trying his website in the future, see if I can find a Contact link there.)

My attempts to contact him by email have failed.

I don't have a Facebook account, and know little about its operations. Is there a standard method to contact via Facebook if having no account there?

Example: so&so@facebook.com

I'd really like to contact this guy, any ideas that help are very appreciated.
