mike7934 Sep 26, 2003 05:56 PM

Hi, i'm new to this forum. I just have a couple questions. I was wondering how long can I keep a baby let say a hatchling, maybe al little bit bigger, in a 20 gallon long tank? Also, I have a uvb bulb can i use this for the basking and hot spot? Any other information would be good. Thanks.

Mike.

Yes to the UVB if it is a mercury vapor, they give off UVB and heat both, no if it is a tube, they generate no heat and you can use another fixture with a normal household bulb for heat and light intensity. Whichever set up you use, invest $10 in a digital temperature gauge (walmarts, radio shack) and check the surface basking temps, we recommend 95-110. With a household bulb increase or decrease the wattage or raise/lower the light to get ideal temps (not so close the dragon can jump on it and get a burn). Dragons perfer overhead heat/light sources, not undertank.
