Well, this post is a little delayed since I picked these guys up at the Columbia, SC show a couple of weeks ago now...But I got a pair of adult H. gigas that I traded some for. Both are proven but not to each other. The male is probably close to 6' long and has just a slightly stubbed tail while the female is bright colored, not much shorter, and would be flawless if she didn't have scars breeding scars. I attempted feeding them the second day that I had them and they totally POUNDED the small rats I offered them! The male hit so hard that I thought he was going to twist my wrist and take the tongs right out of my hand. The females eats great too, but is a little nervous about being tong fed and prefers the rat to be placed onto the ground before she will take it.
My question is about breading though. The guy I got them from said one pair was his and the other wasn't, his pair bred without any sort of hibernation or cooling period while the other guys pair bred after a cool/hibernation period. What is the best way for me to get these guys to cycle for spring?
Anyway, just wanted to share my great news and hopefully get some info to help me get more of these guys out there next season.
