Striped Ruthveni ?

KcTrader Nov 29, 2010 09:59 PM

After getting everything settled down for the winter, I have the L.ruthveni bug. It has been a toss up all summer between L.ruthveni or L.m.thayeri. I went with the ruthveni and now I have researched some of the older posts to get some lineage on the whole thing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. It started with Lemke and then to Shannon. Shannon you then sent the older male to Aaron, and the rest of Lemke collection went to Justin. Now going through some older posts and ads, I see some of you better known breeders here have some great animals. Again correct me if I'm wrong it all stems from Lemke. Also, from Amealco stock.

Now comes the million dollar question is the striping trait recessive? Co-dom? dom? or a little of each? I know the amel trait has been proven recessive, Has anyone produced a amel striped L.ruthveni? I would like to see what you guys have produced out there with these genes?or have purchased?

Jimmy....
You got it semi correct....You are missing one key name though.
Give Shannon an email....he'll tell you the TRUE story on these guys.....
But yes they started with Lemke and are from Amealco, Mexico stock.
The gene is not recessive, Co-dom or Dominant.....it is very hard to reliably predict the outcome from breeding these. But there is a Striped Ruthveni and a super form called a Super Striped Ruthveni. Some Super stripes hatch from breeding a striped to a striped. There are amels stripes but no amel super stripes yet.
I will post some pics of mine when I get to my home computer.
Email me and I can share lots of pics that aren't mine.

I hope my emails answered most of your questions....
The striped gene is not predictable....
They are originally from wild caught Amealco Ruthveni collected by Lloyd Lemke in 1983.
There have been some albino striped ruthies hatch, few super stripes and no albino super stripes...........yet!

Glad you have the ruthie bug.....They are underrated but awesome kingsnakes and they are farthest south kingsnake there is not counting milksnakes.....
Also.....The first amel tricolored snake was an Amealco Ruthveni......
