I mainly work with Corns and Balls but am also partial to Tricolor Hogs. I have a 5 year old female who I've had for about a year and a half now, and today received a 3 month old male. He is so adorable!! Here are two pics of him and a pic of my female. I got him off of the KS classifieds so just got to see him in person for the first time today. Definitely love at first sight. Hope you think he's cute too

I was told he was eating f/t pinks. I have a couple hundred of rodent pro's smallest size pinks. I spent some time digging through the bags finding the smallest one I could. It still looked kind of big for a snake this size. Left it in his tub overnight. He didn't touch it.

He's supposed to be 3 months old. Is he really big enough to eat a whole pinkie? Or do you guys start them off with pinkie heads at this size? Does he look typical size for a 3 month old? He's 4 grams.

Also, I'm hoping they are the same species. I think the female is a Pulcher (she was sold to me as Semicinctus which obviously she is not). The male was just labeled Tricolor. Do they both look like Pulchers to you?

First, your snake is almost certainly pulcher-very few semicinctus about.

Yes, does seem a bit small for a 3 month old. Regardless, should be able to handle newborn pinks. Baby tricolors are often difficult feeders-try all the standard tricks (live, brained, deli-cupped, tuna scent, amphibian scent, etc.). I like to keep my baby tricolors in-house until they have fed multiple times and shown significant growth, since shipping seems to often cause "backsliding", and turn a feeder into a "non-feeder"...

Brad, have you ever had a 3 month old feeder still be 4g? Most of my animals hatch out 4 to 6g, and once they feed grow at a steady rate.

Not a good feeder-have had the occasional "runt" that might still be that small-but, no, a good feeder should be twice that size.

The baby hog will not eat for me. The seller told me he's been eating great for 3 months. I emailed him twice to say I've been told he should weigh more than 4 grams if he's really been eating good for 3 months. The seller has not responded. I also bought an Opal Motley Corn from him but he shipped me a Snow Corn instead which does me no good in my breeding program and is worth a fraction of what an Opal Motley is worth. I think I got skunked out of the $388 I sent him for the two snakes and shipping. I'll keep trying to save the hog but he might be past the point of saving. I'm really bumming

Also something you may try is to assist feed him mouse tails... this is how i had to start off my problem feeder tricolor and it is not nearly as traumatic or stressful as other force-feeding methods...sometimes it is hard for the young ones to get the pinks down because of their skin i think.

I have no problems getting tricolors to take small pinks, even some 2 and 3 g babies can take the extra small pinks, so I am not sure what you mean by the skin being an issue?

At three months and most likely a non feeder, it is doubtful he will handle any sort of stress very well...especially that of assist feeding. Lyn, when you pick him up does he have good body tone, or does he feel "limp" and kinda squishy?

I'm not against trying a mouse tail. I'm sure my larger snakes won't miss a tail off of one of their dinners. At this point I'll try anything. I could not locate a suitable lizard or frog to scent with or kill and mush up. I did finally get a day old live pink but he didn't eat it. He won't eat any manor of f/t pinks. He is limp/squishy, no muscle tone. Truly amazed he's still alive. I broke down and force fed him a pinkie head a couple days ago. Might have been too little too late. I ordered a pinkie pump too. Never used one, am unsure if you even can use one on a baby that small. At this point I've decided getting food into him is more important than waiting for him to eat on his own. If I can keep him alive then I can worry down the road about getting him eating on his own. I'll keep you posted...

Changing him from Aspen to damp Moss shortly after I got him seems to have taken care of the dehydration issue. He survived the force feeding of the pinkie head that I did a few days ago. I did a whole adult mouse tail last night. I check on him in the morning before work every day. He is in a 9 inch deli inside one of my heated 32 qt drawers in my boaphile rack. He could have the whole drawer if he wanted but I thought that would be too much for such a little guy. I pick up the deli and wait for him to move a little then put it back, don't open the tub or disturb him. Just enough that I know he's still alive. Normally he just lays there and the most I get is a little tongue flick or slight turn of the head. This morning when I picked up the deli and looked in he actually moved much more than normal and looked a little bit spunkier than normal. So now he has a pinkie head and an adult mouse tail in him. I'm eager to move on to whole pinks, but wanted to start small so as not to overwhelm his system in case these are his first ever meals. I will leave him alone for about 5 -7 days now before trying any more feedings. Thank you everyone for your support. Will keep you posted.

Poor little guy passed away yesterday in spite of my desperate attempt to save him. I'm in tears. I emailed the seller. I want my money returned as there is no way that baby has been eating solid for 3 months like he told me he was. He was too thin and only weighed 4 grams. He'd puff up with air when you picked him up giving him the illusion of being not so bad. But when he was down and not puffed with air you could see how thin he really was. He was my Christmas present to myself and didn't even live to Christmas. I'll let you know what the seller says. If he won't return my money then time to hit the BOI. I'm giving him one last chance to make this right, not that he can mend my broken heart from my little guy dying. If he was "as advertised" then I'd think just arriving live would cover it. But he wasn't "as advertised" and I've emailed him twice about how small and thin he is and how he won't eat and he didn't respond to my emails. On top of him shipping me an "Opal Motley" corn that ended up being an underweight "Snow" corn that I can't even give away until I can get his weight up. This whole thing has just been a huge disaster.

The Corn Snake died tonight. He was thin too but was a couple years old so going a few weeks refusing food shouldn't have been a big deal, I was focused on trying to save the hog who was much more in danger being so small. There is no way the corn could have starved to death in 3 weeks. I kept him the way I've kept all my corns for years. I offered him food several times, he didn't eat. I actually watched him die which was so horrible. I heard a sound and checked on him and he was writhing around in apparent agony, I didn't know what to do, grabbed my camera to take a video to email to my vet for advise, then as I was video taping he just stopped moving. I thought he was resting. But he was dead. I'm still in shock. So now both snakes are gone. I've been keeping snakes for over 15 years. I'm not a kid or a beginner. I'm 42 and my snakes are my life. I emailed the seller I want a full refund. But even that won't ever take away the memory of the last 3 weeks and finding the baby hog dead after trying so hard to save him, then actually watching the corn die before my eyes. I could just curl up in a ball and die myself right now I feel so miserable.

Sorry to hear that...this seller sounds like a knob and i would be very interested to know who so i do not buy anything from them... What is BOI? a place to post grivances or something? Not only did he send the wrong corn to you but he also sent you dying/starving snakes! That is just crazy -- this guy is either a crook or retarded... or both.
