I was talking to a friend of mine who's son has a pet ball python. She was telling me that they went to the doctor because he had developed a wart on his hand. After asking questions the doctor found out he had a pet snake. The doctor claims that the snake is the culprit for the wart. I am no physician. i have kept snakes for many years and never had a wart. Some people are prone to them who have never touched a reptile. Does anyone know if there is a direct link between contact with a snake and warts?

Warts are the result of HPV, not contact with reptiles.

I would wonder where in class standing their doctor graduated from medical school. Sounds mean....but after almost dying because my doctor wouldn't let go of the idea that whatever was wrong with me was from one of my exotic pets.....I changed doctors one and two I have learned to pursue stuff. (I had a DOG tick borne disease BTW...cause gee, besides owning exotics I run a KENNEL and encounter a couple hundred dogs.)

Thats what i was thinking. Sometimes at my job if someone asks me a question and i have no idea i just make something up haha. its scary to think doctors do that too. By the way sonya do i know you from my past? are you from canada?

No, I don't think we know each other. I am only about 4 hrs south of canada...upstate NY. But only been there once on a weekend visit a gazillion years ago.

Doctors guess all the time. Hopefully they do use a little educational guessing though. In my case they started treating without a diagnosis and saved my life but I changed anyway since when I asked why they did what they did she basically said...'well I knew we had to do something fast and this seemed reasonable' (starting me on doxycycline and rocephine). No harm and it got me out of the hospital but I wasn't totally healthy for two more years and a long run of three antibiotics intended to treat an infiltrate pneumonia. And they have narrowed my ailment down to one of a couple hundred rickettsia. Practicing...
For a Dr to jump on warts as passed by reptiles...wow. Maybe he got his herps confused? Maybe he was thinking TOADS. J/k

Ok. It was a long shot but i knew a woman many years ago who was into exotics. She also ran a small dog rescue and you mentioning a kennel sort of made me remember her. I know thats not much but go figure her name was sonya.

well, I have worked in the pet trade or animal trade all my life. So I have exotics...if you count the 8 dogs I took in that I own you could say I have a rescue.
I am selling a friends breeding pairs of parrots after a house fire. I run a boarding / grooming kennel and have rehomed some pets for clients. My vet calls my pets my "freak show" At one time most of my pets were animals I saved from death of some sort and are gimps or 'challenged' in some way....two of our three remaining parakeets are splay legged gimps...and talk like crazy, couple of the dogs are toy breeds that had severe hypoglycemia issues as pups. Goofy stuff. It is that big sucker sign.

It is hard to believe that some people still think toads or even snakes could give people warts. Such an "old wives tale". You would think that a doctor would be better educated.

If our critters really gave people warts we would all be covered.

I have had snakes since I was 12 and they have never made me sick in any way. I know how to wash my hands. Some "doctor". Snort and roll my eyes.

I would have so many warts I would look like the "Elephant Man" by now too, as I have held countless thousands of snakes since 1968(8 years old).

Maybe we are just "immune"..LOL!
