I had a tub melt last night. I was using a large tub AP rack and the heat cable melted the bottom of the tub on the lowest slot. I know that some how the probe was dislodged from slot...not sure how but likely when I last checked on them...but it caused the temps to sky rocket. Not sure how long this was allowed to continue...had to have happened within the last couple of days. I checked on the snakes on Tuesday night to give them water. Anyway, the snakes in the lower tubs have been moved to another rack. The snakes in the upper racks where taken off heat for the evening and I will deal with it when I get home this afternoon. Now for my questions:

1. What are the initial signs of a burn on snakes? I have a few snakes that I have acquired throughout the years that have burn scars on them but I have never seen fresh burns. The snake in the bottom tub was highly agitated but some of the other snakes seemed okay. One seemed a little listless at first but after some time cooling off seemed okay.

2. What care modifications should they receive? Reduced heat (93.5 what it was supposed to be)? Reduced or increased feeding frequency (they are are on a weekly feeding schedule and scheduled to be fed tonight)?

3. The tub melted over the heat cable and is now solidified over the cable. Should I try to reuse this rack?

Any additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

W. Smith
