Cage I Built

jeffrosoccer6 Dec 04, 2010 05:23 PM

Thought I would post some pics of what I have done on a cage I built for my two spotted pythons, plus the occupants

I still need to get around to finishing the outside. It was a lot of work considering I only used a $10 handsaw...

I baked the bricks to sterilize them.

That ledge to the left is what covers a zoo-med heat pad. Next time I will just make the space beneath there go all the way across, which is how the botton cage is done (so no ledge, but still heat).

Nice job considering. They look pretty good to me and I like the rope lights. Maybe you can get some of those in neon purple so they can look cool. J/K

My only concern would be your snakes getting themselves stuck in the pipe clamps holding your rope lights. Probably not but snakes do manage to get themselves in situations sometimes.

To finish the outside you might consider just rubbing the wood down with either mineral oil or vegetable oil. Wipe it on let it soak in for an hour then wipe off the excess, do several applications and repeat from time to time. The advantages are you don't have to remove your snakes. The oil will bring out the natural colors of your lumber and it is still pretty water resistant, won't flake, chip or peel.

Nice pythons too.
