Pygmy P. d. deppei update

monklet Dec 05, 2010 06:03 PM

...not much to report really ...but she is getting more yellow by the year. Still a shrimp, just about 135 grams at about 28 months! ...but good body weight for length, and calming down. Kind of cool in a way, too bad retics don't stay 24 inches long, hehee

Thats a nice looking snake. I used to have a jani that seemed to grow really slow as well. They don't seem to eat quite the same as other Pituophis.

I too have a runt. He is an 08' If its a pygmy/dwarfism trait, I don't know...

I think a lax attitude on the inbreeding of colubrids leads to these possibly recessive traits that aren't as visibly striking as albinism or striping etc.

Yeah, line breeding can result in some wierd things I reckon, it's not just color/pattern that can shift, as you said, those traits are just the most obvious. Like one of my Stillwaters which has a sort of wierd head shape and tends to sleep with her mouth open ...good thing is I like the look and she is an absolutely awesome animal.

btw, what the heck is that guy? I might guess bimaris? Or deserticola x vertabralis? Good looking pygmy

Strange because a friend of mine thought it looked closer to deserticola...

It is annectans (with possible affinis influence)
