Boa Dinner time

dboyd1523 Dec 06, 2010 05:29 PM

My wife and I have an eight year old red tail that eats only f/t jumbo rats , when it is feeding time she dont strike at the rat and even acts uninterested until you leave it in her cage for a while and then she will check the thing all over before eating it as gently as any snake I have ever seen . Our other red tail who is 6 years old is an aggressive eater and was also raised on f/t and the several Ball Pythons i have are aggressive eaters . Any one else ever have a snake so docile as this when eating ?

My male suriname has nailed a roll of paper towels and tryed to squeeze it but my female who looks big and bad wont hit food.Like you i lay it in walk out, she will smell and swallow real calm and cool. And i also trust her more.LOL

Yeah I've actually asked her a few times if she'd like a plate and napkin with her meal . She'd probably eat it off a plate if I were to set a rat on one and put in there for her .

I also have a female Surinam who won't strike at food. She'll strike at me non-stop for bugging her, but when I bring food she shows no interest. I leave a f/t rat in the cage 10 mins before lights-out, come back 10 mins after lights-out and its gone and she's back in her hiding spot. Only thing she's ever struck at is me, lol.

My Bolivian boa is the exact same way. He's spoiled. I put the thawed rat on a paper towel or paper plate and I have to leave the room, he will not eat if I'm present, he'll just stare at me. Funny some of the "personalities" these guys have huh? He's the biggest Bolivian I've ever seen in person and luckily he's the nicest one I have.

I used to have a burm that would eat turkey drumsticks from my hand. As part of a varied diet I'd give her a couple Turkey drumsticks for a meal and I simply held them out to her one at a time and she'd lift up and start swallowing one end while I held onto the other. She was super gentle and never struck at me.

I had a pair of dums that would act the same way. Wouldnt strike at food anymore as they did when they were younger. They just wanted to crawl up and eat with no fuss.
