New Boa morph?

Jay Dec 08, 2010 08:51 AM

Picked up this little farm bred boa that came in with a shipment from South America. Very unique in pattern and color. Don't know what to make of it? I am looking for feedback on this one. I am more of a BCC guy and really don't have any experience with the morphs. What do you think?!
Thanks, Jay

He is very unique. New Morph? You can never tell till breeding and see if traits pass along. Could it be holding a recessive trait? same thing. Look at the hets for leapord. They cause a unusual pattern. Keep him and see what happens with off spring. To me as of right now though he look like normal with a very abbarent Pattern. Beautiful snake either way. Thanks for sharing Mike

That's a great looking critter.

It isn't "very unique" because there is no such thing. "Unique" means "one of a kind" so it's either unique or not. If it's a new morph, it isn't one of a kind (or won't be for long).

It's a very nice looking snake, and I hope it turns out to be a genetic treasure for you. Best wishes.

Sorry, that was a little annoying, and rude in my opinion...so I pulled some stuff up for fun.

unique - 4 dictionary results
u·nique   /yuˈnik/ Show Spelled
[yoo-neek] Show IPA

–adjective
1. existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics: a unique copy of an ancient manuscript.
2. having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable: Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.
3. limited in occurrence to a given class, situation, or area: a species unique to Australia.
4. limited to a single outcome or result; without alternative possibilities: Certain types of problems have unique solutions.
5. not typical; unusual: She has a VERY UNIQUE smile.

Yeah, read number 5. Then just one link I found on the topic. I could find a "more perfect" example, but this will suffice.

Self-Aggrandizement

Dictionaries reflect common usage. I'm talking etymology.

The fundamental meaning of the word is "one of a kind." It isn't possible to be very one of a kind. It's like being pregnant; either you are or you aren't. You can't be a little pregnant, or very unique.

If the snake in question is truly unique (and even if it isn't), I hope the owner has great success in propagating the morph.

So, since he used the word based on a modern dictionary, you're going with the origin of the word? If this were an english forum, I could see it. Since it's a boa forum, you just look arrogant. YAY for you, you know about words n stuff! I'm stupified. If you corrected every post in this forum for english errors, you would be a very busy man. Basically, LIGHTEN UP. You know what I hate? MAYBE I WILL, MAYBE I WON'T. Doesn't the word MAYBE essentially mean either yes or no? I'm not going to look up the words origin and God forbid I use a modern dictionary for a definition and leave myself open to more scrutiny. So, why drag it out? It bugs me, but I've NEVER said anything to anyone about it, cause it would just be annoying. Well, whatever, take it for what it's worth-I'd bet I'm not the only person that read that reply and thought, "wow, jerk!" Based on other posts, you're not, so that one was surprising. Maybe you had a chip on your shoulder that day? Perhaps, you're just really anal about words, lol. Take care
