KSAZ (Phoenix, Arizona) 07 December 10 Italian Criminals Turn to Pythons to Guard Drugs(NewsCore): Forget about attack dogs: a drug ring in Italy’s Neopolitan Camorra mafia used a large white python to guard its cocaine stash, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Monday.
What’s more, ANSA said, police had to get past the python to install listening devices that helped them arrest the gang. It did not specify exactly how they bypassed the snake.
Police said the gang’s clients consumed the cocaine at the hideout and some 25 people had been arrested.
ANSA reported it was the second case of a python found guarding drugs this year.
In August, Rome police came face to face with a a hissing and famished albino python coiled around a stash of cocaine and had to fend it off by feeding it a whole chicken.
Pythons can reach lengths of up to 35 feet.
