I am glad justice was served, but think he is getting a slap on the wrist at just 4 months behind bars. I sure hope he meets Bubba....lol That will really be justice. Glad the truth is out Kevin.

Congrats Kevin. I hope he gets a few balls in the pokey.

Kevin,

It seems like the article keeps going but stops at Seavy's defense attorney commenting. Is there another link to finish the story?

You think forcible rape is an appropriate punishment for theft? Maybe in Iran, but this country is predicated on the idea that the ONLY punishment that is appropriate is the one given by the state, not your notions of 'street justice'.

Sorry, this was supposed to be in response to the people saying that they hope this guy gets raped in prison, not to your post. Apologies.

Ghireptiles Dec 11, 2010 06:23 PM

I think it's great he got caught and convicted but his sentence is very light. Stealing that much from someone who worked so hard for it is terrible. The great thing about these kinds of crimes coming to light is it lets people know who they should and shouldn't be dealing with!

I love the smell of justice in the morning -- it smells like...VICTORY!!!!!! Agree with Matt in that it seems a bit light. But Scott IS doing time!!!!

Kevin,

Congratulations on getting a conviction.

Hopefully you can now put some closure to the whole mess.

Was this considered a felony? With something with a value of $10k, wouldn't this guy be guilty of organizing and masterminding a burglary or grand larceny, or something more serious? It sounds like he was convicted of buying a hot item, almost like he picked up a stolen weed whacker or speakers from some guy in a van, not organizing the pre-meditated theft of $10k worth of inventory in an attempt to profit and directly hurt the competition? If he paid some moron to go into a jewelry store and take (without permission) a ring or necklace worth $10,000, wouldn't that be grand theft, or whatever, and I would expect the person to get 5-10 years? Why isn't a snake worth $10k treated the same as a chunk of old carbon that has been polished smooth?

ohernz Dec 12, 2010 08:05 AM

I am glad this guy got caught, but the sentence is WAY TOO LIGHT!

Glad you got resolve Kevin, ashamed it happen in the first place. Everyone in the reptile community needs to stand strong and stand together with everyone else who enjoys this hobby.

While I am VERY glad you had a proper resolution to this, I still find it strange that the DA let the actual thief have a lower sentence. Either way, congrats on this finally being over!

Yes, stealing is reprehensible. Yes, knowingly receiving stolen goods is just as bad as actually stealing. Yes, this sentence was WAY too short for the crime committed.

That being said, those of you calling/wishing for the thief to be forcibly raped in prison as part of his 'punishment' should be ashamed of yourselves. America is a country built on a few fundamental principles, and among those are the idea that the government has the sole legitimate use of force when it comes to punishing crime and that no one should be subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. The widespread existence of prison rape is one of the true black marks on American society. I have lived in countries where they revel in the use of cruel and unusual punishments, and I have no desire to watch America become another Iran.

I realize these are two completely different issues, but the point is the legal system in this country is flawed. My brother was killed by a drunk driver in a one car accident. The driver pled not guilty. There is a chance this guy may not do any time, or get probation or hopefully do time. My point is, if jail is what Kevin wanted, be happy he was sentenced to 4 months. I've seen crimes committed that were 1000x worse than what this Scott guy did and they did less if no time at all. 4 months may seem extreme to some people. I'm just saying the court systems are flawed. Getting a guilty verdict is a victory in itself. The time served is just a bonus...... just my opinion. Good luck this breeding season to everyone. Happy Holidays

EvilMorphgod Dec 12, 2010 04:49 PM

this whole process seems to NAIL a point home. The Legal System seems to PROTECT the criminals and leave the innocent to suffer!!!

My assistant DA for the case was AWESOME, but he was very frustrated in his job. He says way too many people don't want to help, don't want to get involved and guilty people get off all of the time. The sentences are weak and pathetic, I don't I would be able to handle such weakness in the court.

The judge was also impressive that he did not criticize that all of this was about a snake. he was clearly frustrated with all the Non-Sense of the case and the RIDICULOUS statements from Scott's defense. All the witnesses for the most part were asked if they were doing drug deals, drug addicts or is they have been bribed or paid off to testify. So much to say here but it is just babble....

I really do think Crime generally pays and it is people with Moral character that are meant to suffer under such trash.

Not saying that I easily look the other way.....far from it but I am just tired of an endless stream of crooks and thieves that weedle into my world of Reptiles. It does not seem to stop, I have a long history of getting abused by such "types".

Kev...the business/hobby we are in is full of lowlife scumbags and thieves. Most of the time nothing happens to them but some do get caught. I know of one guy in particular that was one of the biggest scammer/scumbags in the industry. He would rip people off with no hesitation at all. Tons of people knew about him being a thief but they dealt with him anyway because he would give them good deals on occasion. It's ridiculous that anyone would want someone like that around.

I love the mentality of people half way across the world. If you are a thief and you get caught...off with your hands. If you are a rapist and you get caught off with your...ouch, don't want to go there...or death.

FORTUNATELY...Scott got caught and he was found guilty by a jury of his peers in a court of law. UNFORTUNATELY...he will be back in business and people will do business with him if he has something they want at the right price.

Where there is power, fame and fortune there will always be some one there to try and take it. Always and forever. Kevin, it may seam to happen to you a lot because you are on the top of the world with a select few at your side. You are the top fish and unfortunately there are also bottom feeders in the waters. Not to mention but good people are prone to be targets for evil doers.

Besides can you blame him? Who wouldn't want to be Satan for a few days? lol just kidding we all blame him. To bad he couldn't just rot.

DavidGreen Dec 13, 2010 06:17 PM

Maybe we should just coddle him and make him feel better about himself???

ed1 Dec 14, 2010 11:12 AM

Buying a $10,000 snake for $500 knowing that it was stolen. He is the one who should be ashamed. How is it we should be ashamed for making a joke, he only got 4 months on top of it he probably will get time served against it for his time in the local jail and time off for good behavior. Also why don't you ask Kevin how much time and money was put into that. I bet it was more than $500 and I believe it was years he invested into this project not 4 months.

CEBallPythons Dec 14, 2010 02:59 PM

I agree that the sentence was ludicrously short. But no one deserves forcible rape as a punishment for theft.
