Snakes not eating

Buckle Dec 11, 2010 05:53 PM

I have a Cal king and a Gray Banded king. Each are about seven years old and up until this past month, I have never had an issue with them eating. As near as I can tell, there haven't been any environmental changes other than the weather. I kept their temp the same as I have every year prior. Last month they both decided to stop eating. They are active and don't seem to have any obvious issues other than simply not caring about their food. I am feeding them the same pre-killed frozen mice I have for the last few years. The only thing I have found was that maybe they are just in the mood to hibernate but I don't want to take any chances. They are in similar enclosures but not the same. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

It is perfectly normal for kings to go off feed in the fall. The odd thing here is if they are 7 years old and this is the first time they have ever gone off feed...well, that is a mystery. Most of my colubrids have gone off feed this fall, but the oldest is only three years old. They mostly all ate during their first winter as babies, but starting their second winter went off feeding.

Thanks for the reply. I will keep an eye on them and see if anything changes. Hopefully it is just that time of year and they will be back to normal soon.
