well.. i must admit too that i am very dirty and grungy because like yourself i am still working in my herp room.. i just got done moving all the cages around.. setting up the new wd tank.. rearranging it and bleaching all the extra rocks.. much to the wds dismay.. poor girl she must think i am crazy..moving her cage around.. moving all her branches giving her a new pool.. she looked at me and silently said "Well if your gonna take away my branches i might aswell sleep on you" and that she did..so now at 1030 (my time) i have a wd on my arm.. typing this and have 15 rocks and branches soaking in the sink...and the room is still in disarray.. sigh

I am going to go and test 28 of the 32 light sockets that I have wired on this bad boy, if i don't post again in 20 minutes then you know my wiring wasn't correct and I am probably convulsing on the floor.

and I added to it

Nice that you are doing and CAN do a set up like that...... LOL, I can offer you and Kelly a working vacation in Florida I'll only make you work 4 hours a day, the rest of the time you can spend at the beach(I am near the Guld of Mexico) or being couch potatoes...how about it?

grimdog Sep 26, 2003 11:45 PM

kelly is out having fun. Ok figured out the issue, timers need a continous flow of electricity to work. dimmers mess with that. so to be able to use a timer you can't use a dimmer ( ) also using spiral lights you can't use a dimmer. So no dimmer, just 2 timers for the four levels. I was really looking forward to using dimmers (could have controlled the temp of each level independently really nice in hot summer months or when brumating dragons). But if I use dimmers I don't get to use spiral lights and don't get the advantage of using timers. will put some more thought into it but at this moment think the dimmers go out the window. Cheri vacation, uh yeah what is that??? I still haven't found anyone that would come and feed hundreds of crickets a day to my dragons and clean poop. LOL!!! I am hoping we can some how swindle our way to daytona next year. Other than that vacation is limited to mid winter (no babies and brumation reduces the work by a ton). Ok I am off to bed feeling a little dejected at almost 1 AM. This rack has been needed for awhile, with you shipping wonderful dragons to me just made it all the more neccesary.

215 for the big gril!!!! unbeleiveable. The girl we still have that came with the bigger one you have is 228 now, so I think we got these two in time to see them hopefully make it to normal size dragons, and the colors...OMG, amazing there was that color there waiting to come out with good diet, husbandry and health. I would never have guessed it when they arrived July 1 at 22 grams and 34 grams, loaded with worms, sores and parasites. I wonder if they are going to keep up this rate of eating? I have never seen dragons put away mass amounts of food like this.

I miss taken in the rehab dragons, its so wonderful to see them turn around like they can, but the imported ones take up a lot of time now and I want to concentrate all on them and the others I have that are permanent here. Once they are gone I will go back to taking in non thrivers. At least you helping and taking in those tells us, its not just the Florida sun or something I do, its a combination of the right husbandry and I think more than ever before the light intensity is a big key to it.

Great also that the little one is growing, thats double the weight since you got her! Congrats

Now as for Tarzan, sounds like he recovered from the trip fine and is still shooting for being the biggest kid on the block, I so look forward to following these guys... I wonder if Titan can outgrow him and there is another one pushing for matching them ;p

I whole heartedly believe the "intensity" is way over looked by most people and if they give it a try, they will be hooked as I am.

With that being said, I must STRESS, go for the intensity after the UVB needs are met. If one can use Mercury Vapor in the stack of light then by all means, use it.

Example:

I had Cuddles under a Merc. Vap. in her quarantine tank and it just recently started turning off periodically (dieing).
Anyway, I replaced it with a small UVB strip and a basking bulb. This seems to give off more light and definitely more heat (the temps don't lie)
However, she is now showing the belly circles???

I am stabbing in the dark here but I am comfortable saying, " I think she was more comfortable under the Merc. Vap."
I must also confess the possibility that it may also be stress related. Any change in environment can cause stress.
So, Stress, Comfort, UVB ?? Or a combo??

Sandy has said good night for a while so I am going to switch bulbs and see what happens.

I'll let you know.
