Sounds like she's musking everytime you pick her up. It's a defense mechanism utilized by many snakes. That goes along with her cool attitude.

There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity. The ignorant can be taught, stupidity is beyond our control.

Yeah, but very unusual for Pituophis in my experience. Almost never musk or crap.

Almost never musk or crap.
I wish my bulls never crapped! When they take a normal poop it is immediately noticeable and must be attended to promptly! That's one of the reasons they live in a big screen cage; they need the ventilation.

But they are very mild mannered tame individuals and never musk me. I have some other pituophis (Pacific gophers) and none of them have ever musked me, either. Their poop is not as "aromatic" as the bulls' poop, but still needs quick attention if I am to have a comfortable nose.

I have heard that if you feed snakes chicks it makes their poop runny and very stinky.

Nah, I meant, never crap defensively when handled.

I've kept a few Pits (all Gophers), and only had one that musked me. A Lancaster intergrade female w/ attitude galore, and that was the worst smelling musk I've ever smelled.

Yup- musk.

None of mine musk, with the exception of my leucistic southern and my wild caught sonoran gopher, but only after they get VERY wound up.

They don't spray it, but definitely leave me a little on my hands!
