Timor monitor questions....(yellow spot)

drizztice Dec 16, 2010 04:04 PM

hello evereyone,

I've been checkin out some of the posts and I've seen a lot of info on timors but I have some specific questions....

My Timor is about 9 inches long I bought him from a pet store close to my house he (was an inch or two smaller when I got him over a month ago) he is obviously eating as he is on his second shed since I brought him home. I first had him in a 20 gallon tall tank. After seeing worms in his feces I took him to the vet and got him sum panacur and he seems to be all cleared up. So recently I put together a 29 gallon aquarium with a ply wood top that has holes in it for the light bulbs, some live plants, I custom built a 3d background with built in hideing spots, plenty of logs, twigs, fake plants and about 2 1/2 to 3 inches of sand/dirt 50/50 mix. I've been giving him crickets, super worms, eggs, and pinkies. His basking spot is about 130- 140, his ambient temp is varied from 80
to 90 depending on the height of the area being tested ( where 80 represents the area furthest from the heat source I.e. The ground) and he can dig a burrow to reach cooler temps( about 75). His water dish is large enough for a soak.

Now to my questions....

Will he get used to me being around? In never see him and I never try to touch him...I have hope cuz he is still young but will some one with experience give me
an idea.
....also is there a chance that I will actually see him eat?..

How big of a cage should I prepare to build for this guy? He's in a 29 gallon now...

Would a kimberl brock monitor make a good cage mate(in the future) or will it be ok to leave him solo?..

Hope to hear soon....

Oh... How do I upload my photos to the forum?

I can say with the Glauerti and Pilbarensis we keep the hatchlings seem to be very shy and reclusive for the first 2 months, after that they seem to realize we are not a threat to them and come out more often in our presence. Funny I was feeding some 2 month old kimberly rocks today and one of them actually hunched his back at me in a real stand offish manner. I mean he has grown a little but not enough to be so cocky yet LOL. Cute to witness these behaviors in the little ones. Im sure with time your timor will settle in to.
