Anole ID

Hey, in my backyard I have a few different anole species, although most are browns with some greens. I used to have a lot of Knights, but I haven't seen one around in years... every once-in-a-while I get what I think is a crested anole, but I'm not sure...

Anyway, I get two others that I'm not sure about, and I was able to get a picture of one of them. So, does anyone know what this is?

Thanks!

I forgot where I read how to do it here on Kingsnake, but I had wondered myself for some time.

Anyway, you have to put [ img ] URL [ / img ] but without spaces. I still will usually put one of the pictures in the "Image URL:" box below, just so it shows on the topics page that there are pictures being posted

are all of your pix on KS Gallery or do you have them elsewhere online? I think I tried to do it the way you described but it didn't work. Will have to try again.
thx,
lele

My links are on my own website.

If you post the URLs, I'll get them up for you and show you exactly how I did it, although the problem may be with the hosting page you're using. Things like Geocities and I think Tripod won't let you host a photo if it's linked on another site.

Nice photos!! Hey, cheshireycat, since you live in Florida, I wanna ask you a question. This winter break, I'm going to Florida, and our family will visit Everglades National Park and few other places. I heard that green and brown anoles are VERY common throughout the state. Are they also that common in December? They don't go to hibernation, do they? That's when I'm going, since the winter break begins in mid December. I'm really looking forward to see anoles in wild, because I live in Oregon, which is a long distance away from Florida. And Florida sounds unique too. By the way, are alligators also common during the winter, or are they just abundant annually? Thanks for the info.

Tim

Thanks

Now, I've lived in Miami my whole life, although I did live for some time in Daytona, and I never really saw anoles out there. Maybe a couple, but not many. And I'm not sure if you're going to encounter many in Everglades Nat'l Park, but near there there will be tons of anoles of many kinds. They will be out and about during the winter, except for maybe the coldest of days (35-40*F). The alligators will be out, too, and you'll see more than plenty at the park

I hope you have a good time when you come down and find Florida to your liking... if you want to meet up and herp, let me know

It looks like it might be a Bark Anole (A. distichus)with that sort of scratchy pattern, males have a pale yellow dewlap. They are very common in some parts of the Miami area.
Nice photos!

Thanks, Tim, I'm going to look into that. I have another anole that I think is a bark, but the color is almost slate grey with no pattern. This one looked a little metallic, even, where the blues and greens are. I'm going to check CalPhotos and see what they have.
