madeline0burns Dec 20, 2010 11:13 PM

I have two '10 Nicaraguan Boas, one male, one female and they are both the most fiesty boa babies i have. I have several other '10 and '09 babies (surinames and pastels)that you can just reach in and pick up and are sweet hearts, im just wondering if these nics are gonna grow out of it?? i sure hope so... some days i come outta there lookin like i ran my fingers thru a brier bush!

Here is some advice, not sure if you are doing any of these this but worth a try if you're not.

Do not pick them up with your hands when going into their enclosure, use a snake hook and grab them toward the back of their body. Slowly get them off the hook and beging by just holding them by the enclosure, not walking with them to another room. Begin by only handling them for a couple minutes, then put them back. Slowly work up to keeping them out for 10 - 15 minutes, again not moving them to another room and only handling them every other day. They should slowly calm down if you follow this advice, once to can handle them for the 15 minute period, you can begin trying to move them to a different room, but don't push the time to much. I have had luck using this method with very evil animals and it's worked every time. Just be careful if you decide to set them down on the floor, have your snake hook hany because they may decide to go back to their evil former self LOL. Just be patcient, most will calm down with age (1-2 years) but you just have to be diligent and follow a routine and most will come around for you.

thanks, yeah we have been using a hook, or blockin their head with the lid and then once you touch them they usually calm down a bit. but i got the male out yesterday and he was just jackhammerin himself. so i dont plan on messing with them for a few days, dont wanna stress them out!! but hopefully i can get them to simmer down a bit! thanks a bunch!
