Banana Ball question

exoticball Dec 21, 2010 11:40 AM

I know that the Banana ball has been on the market for some time now and from what I have heard it is either a co-dom or dom trait... however, they are still soo rare and it seems like no one is selling them... So I am wondering is it a co-dom or dom (which one)and is there a reason it is soo rare still. Also it boggles my mind because there is not very much published information on these animals so I was wondering if there are any breeders out there that have more information on the banana balls on their websites?

There were many at the Daytona expo. Females. Several combos also.

@ around 20k each how many do you expect to see out there the people with that kind of jack to through on a snake know where to get them. Give it some time maybe 5 years they will be more obtainable to some of us. I paid 10k for a spider once I will always wait on the co-doms from now on even though I now have a bee het for hypo and caramal albino because of that spider. On the banana balls most were smart and only sold females so it will take a little longer for them to get around but once all those females start breeding there should be many more on the market.

2 things
The first import was a female, so it took time to raise and breed.

Second : they are expensive and not many person want to spend that money on them.

Third : Supposedly, there is nearly only female out there. Few males banana, but most of the hatchling that are bananas are female so it takes more time.
Is it true or just something to keep the price higher by keeping males instead of females ?

Either way, there is more bananas out there than we think. Just underground and they are not marketed here or on the web as they sell anyway.

Will Slough has had this project for about 11-12 years now. Kevin at nerd has had them for over 10 years now. There are a bunch of males out there now and a ton of females that are large enough to breed. I know of at least a dozen or more people that have them. If you sit back and do the math and look around, between what is here, in Canada and Europe, I would bet there are over a hundred now, including a bunch of combos. They will be everywhere VERY soon and the price is going to come down very fast this next year and beyond.

Hello Evan, I'm not sure that I agree with your statement that the bananas are everywhere. And are you saying that you personally know of at least 12 people with males out there right now and you think there is over a 100 males out there right now? I know that for some reason there is a lot of rumors floating around about this morph and how many might be out there. I still think that Its a very sound investment with a lot more demand then supply right now. Lets face it it IS the most sought after single mutation ball python there is right now. Paul, you are not reading what I wrote. I know of at least 12 different people that have bananas, several of them have multiple animals. There are quite a few males out there now. I know that Will has produced a few, good old Brock Wagner has them, There are a couple in Canada, A couple in Europe, Kevin has them, Doug has them, Brad has them. That seems like a few people right there. Will has produced somewhere in the 20-30 range since his original female, if not more. Brock produced some. Kevin has a bunch of them. Brad has two. Doug has a few. Jons Jungle has one for sale now. Tom has one.

When people are selling them for $20,000-60,000 each for a single visual morph, you are going to tell me that the price is not going to come way down with that many people producing them and that many people having multiple animals.

I know quite a bit about the project. The animal that brock bought at tinley was offered to me before it was taken over to him. One of my good friends brought in an adult female last year from Africa and I was going to get babies from that but it died after being here a few months. I used to talk to Will all the time. He brought the original female along with clown and pastel combos to my show in Michigan back in 2000. I know all about him loaning doug bananas to breed. I know about 4 or 5 people he sold them to.

I hope that is enough detail for you Paul. I know alot about the project and I think they are neat animals. But the day of almost anything being worth $60,000 are over let alone a single ball python. The economy sucks and people need to take care of their families and try to not lose their jobs and houses to the banks. I guess maybe some of us dont think about that enough, especially this time of year.

Evan, please refresh my memory could you copy and paste that thread here. I only have one to work with. You must be getting me confused with someone else. I wish I had 2 but I. Was lucky enough to get the one I got there were a few people that wanted him I just pulled the trigger first and it helped being good friends with Wagner LOL!!!!

bboa Dec 28, 2010 07:21 AM

Evan, where are the pics??????

evansnakes Dec 28, 2010 11:35 AM

on the site you posted them on Brad. blbc. hey check out the new NERD video just posted in this forum. where Kevin pulls out four more sub adult bananas he produced! I guess those are on top of the 10-12 he showed in the last video and the 7 he had for sale on his site this season??? They are so rare Brad, I dont care if you have 1 or 20. My point has been made, there are probably over 100 of them out there now. You dont have to be so touchy because you gave your friend brock all your money for one. As long as you produce and sell some this year you will be ok, right?

All good points!
Here's one of Doug's Pastel Bananas that I photographed last year.
At least some of the people who have them are more interested in making the first Banana combos than selling Banana Ball Pythons.
