water monitor sick?

dandjreptiles Dec 21, 2010 09:07 PM

I just got a baby water monitor on this past sat. and i noticed that he/she had some clear fluid coming from the mouth, and sleeps alot. I have only noticed him eat one cricket on mon. The water monitor is about 10 inches, and is alert when i open the cgae. I have the water in a 20 long with a under tank heat at on end and a heat lamp on top. cypress mulch for bedding and a half log hid. I check temps every day and the hot end is 115-120 and the other is 80-85. I have tried to get him to a vet asap. but the earlest is thurs. Is there any thing that i can do to help or make him feel comfortable?

I would try to keep an eye out for dehydration and temps. If looking a bit dehydrated soak in shallow water for 1 hr. a day. These guys can absorb liquids through there vent so the water doesnt need to be deep at all. Sounds like a possible respitory issue, some good antibiotics and keeping the temps a little high should rebound the little guy.
Good luck, Bob
