Any Chocolate owners out there?

EmberBall Dec 22, 2010 12:22 PM

I am still trying to figure out one of my dinker projects, and believe at this point, that they might be Chocolates. Does anyone have any good shots of their Chocolates, full body shots and shots with belly pics.

Dave

These are the two non cross snakes I think might be Chocolates. There should be a belly pic of one of them in the link. One has a clean belly, one is more dirty.

This is the adult female that produced the babies.

And these are the two Mojave produced by the odd female. One Mojave is fairly normal, one is very dark and just off a bit from the Mojaves I have produced in the past. I think the daker of the two is the possible Choc Mojave.

I have 2 chocolates I got this year...both females ..and a chocolate pin male.....the females have color on the bellies...not in a straight line either...just dark all over in a back and forth pattern....LOL...yea I know...take pics man..>LOL...sorry......clean belly would not be the best to be a chocolate ...

anyways...they have a color all over them also...like het pieds have , that chocolate over washed look.....yea I know...that's why they are called chocolates....

....you would have to interbreed them all...good luck....!!!

So two Chocolate females and a Chocolate Pin male....sounds like a Super Chocolate Pin is in your future

OK, so I decided to go look at the adult female's belly, and her belly is the same as the picture of the baby's belly, clean in the center. The odd thing is, the nicer looking of the two males, the male I would have thought would be a Chocolate, or a morph, has the dirty belly. So, now I am even more confused. I just hope the Dark mojave male goes to the female this year, which should answer some of my questions.

...still only one sure way to tell, gotta breed them together. It will be interesting to see what happens with that Mojave too.

Thanks for the input. I got a very helpful email, ok, several, and the consenus is, probably not a Chocolate. If the Dark Mojave would not have hatched, I would not have jumped on the fact that the normal looking babies, the two males, were a morph The Dark Mojave made me do some research, and I came up with Chocolate as being the most likely candidate. I have Sables, and the adult is no Sable. I will breed the male Mojave to the female if he is ready this year, if not, breed a Mystic to her. Thanks for the input again, love the snakes in your pic

This was my first year hatching more than one chocolate (my Garcia line) and about all I can say for sure is that they vary. My founder female has a mostly clear belly but most of the ones I hatched this year have the dark scattered on the belly. Most of mine have a lighter band across the back of the head but I produced a couple that had other chocolate characteristics (wide dark pattern, dark scattered in the light pattern) but not much of that fade band. Sorry, not much help as I don't know what to say about yours but here are some picks that may or may not help.

Here is a fairly subtle one (except for the nice fade band) I produced early in the year:

Here is a right after first shed (fattened up now) pick of one of the more extreme ones from my last clutch:

And here is a Garcia chocolate mojave:

Thanks Randy, your Chocolates look way better than my possible males. Your Mojave cross and mine do look very similar though, so, I have some work to do. Thanks for the pics, any belly pics?

My 2010 pair of keepers I'm pretty sure are het pied so wouldn't be good belly shots. The other remaining pair go out next week (these are yours MW) but wouldn't you know they both have fairly clear bellies.

Thanks for the pictures Randy. I am still very unsure as to what mine might be. With only four eggs, I could have hit on the Mojave cross and gotten just a Mojave and two normals to go along with him. The Chocolate gene is so subtle, that the two normals could be something similar, if not Chocolates...I just don't know. If I have a Super, I really hope it turns out like yours.

The mojave chocolate was locked with my cinnamon pos het hypo this morning. I'm also going to run a chocolate through her. She is borderline on size so be lucky to get anything much less hit the odds on cinnamon chocolate mojave or mojave super chocolate but got to try. Bet the GHI mojave will still hold the ultimate dark snake title anyway but it will be a while before I can add GHI.
