Who breeds Mexican Milks?

Kevin Saunders Dec 22, 2010 12:55 PM

A friend of mine recently acquired an adult Mexican milk in a trade and it got me somewhat interested in them again. I seem to remember them being very common years ago, but I don't see any now that aren't pinstriped or spotted. Personally I like the looks of a regular wide-banded annulata with nothing "special" going on (especially individuals with white/yellow bands as opposed to the more orange examples). Does anyone still keep regular old banded, tricolored annulata? Here's my friend's new male (her pic, not mine):

Yeah, I know what you mean about seeing lots of them available years ago.

There are a nice pair on the classifieds right now, ..however they are a bit apricot colored in the inner rings, and thinner black rings too. They are really nice though, and appear very genuinely pure.

I also saw some on Mark M. Lucas' site just a while ago.

I can't remember off the top of my head who else is breeding them, but I'm sure if you do some googling you can find some nice one's. Here is another one I saw a pic of on the net that is certainly a beautiful example of annulata!

Good luck Kevin!

I've got some very nice normals that I get some very nice looking babies from each year. I'ts nice to hear that someone else has an interest in them, they are the best in my opinion.
Here are a couple pics.

Great pics, both of you. Those are exactly what I'm talking about. Glad to see I'm not the only one interested in individuals with the "classic" look too.

I breed het for nothing plain jane hyw 649 animals. They are f1 babies that I sale.I also have the only trio of breeding annulata from Val Verda county that I know of.They are from right around Comstock and all w/c.But, I also work with pinners, spotted and Tigers.
And, I have some from hyw 349 (north of Dryden) but they are probably intergardes with Celaenops.

A buddy of mine popped them out a couple years ago from two normal looking adults.I really have no other info except I have seen the adults and they are just nice examples of annulata.
I will see if I can get pics of the adults and or more info.

My friend has them still but I have a few spotted etc.. on loan with him to cross them up.
I hate mutts and had to see the adults in person. They are just normal loking annulata and they came from Ric Blair many years ago.He gets one to three out of every clutch and all the others are totally normal.
If I thought for a second they where anything but annulata I wouldn't waste my time.

Did those New Mexicans you hatched out this year all do well for you?

They did well.....2 ate f/t immediately, 2 ate live within 2 weeks and the other 2 were a little more of a project, but did fine. I sure hope for a better m/f ratio this spring.

Dan that has to be one of the nicest patterned annulata I've seen in some time! Lokos like you're having trouble keeping it fed though. If you need any help there I'd be willing to take her off your hands.
