fresh water or brackish water?

Kurita Sep 27, 2003 05:57 AM

Hello.

I think these days I want to keep Cerberus rynchops.
Therefore I have a question.
Which should I use fresh water or brackish water?
"We can keep they in fresh water." clerk said.
However, when investigated, the information that the mangrove zone etc. was inhabited was found.
If they keep in fresh water, I'm worried that Cerberus rynchops may suffer from skin disease, parasitic worm, and etc.

thanks

I don't know too much about the natural history of Cerberus, other than they are a semi-aquatic from SE Asia. I have heard of them from both fresh and brackish environments so I don't know what to tell you. Why don't you try fresh first, and if you see skin problems switch to brackish (you could try adjusting pH, as well). You shouldn't have a problem with parasites if you follow standard deworming procedures for WC snakes and avoid parasitized prey items (i.e. frogs). Good luck.
