...at least in my judgment, wanting to get down in the low 40's F and stay there. Last night was the last straw; outdoors it got down in the teens and I had to uncover all my brumation tubs in my bedroom to let the ambient cabin air in, but that still did not really help as much as I would have liked. So this morning I put everybody back in their regular cages with the heaters off, and draped covers over the cages to make it dark. Last winter was plenty warm and I had brumation temps in the low 50's pretty consistently. The pyros could have probably done okay with low 40's but the poor bulls; I got worried about those guys. Everybody is okay, though. During the day the unheated cages may get into the low 60's. The baby pyros and a pair of young gopher snakes have localized heat because they still eat.
My adult toads are on the floor in the living room and the soil in their big tub stays in the low 50's. Because heat rises my crickets are still breeding and doing great, up on high shelves.
I will be so glad when it is spring and I don't have to mess with firewood anymore! I would move to Hawaii except snakes aren't allowed there.
