help question: male missing spurs...

Earthworks Dec 30, 2010 10:13 PM

hi, my male originally came to me missing one of his vestigial spurs, more recently he got a piece of shed caught in his cloaca area, after i removed it he seems to have lost his other spur...so my question is...is this common? and do the males really need these to breed successfully? btw he had locked up a few times with the single spur missing. thx!

I have two males without any spurs. One started out with tiny little ones to start with (yes, I checked, definitely a male). The other's just shed away like you described. I have only bred one so far, but it doesn't seem to affect their ways with the ladies.

Somewhere along the line my 2007 male desert lost his spurs in a shed cycle. It was too dry, and I corrected that situation.

I was really worried. But it had zero effect. I am getting plenty of desert clutches from him.
