Sinoloan Milk behavior ....

OZZZ Dec 31, 2010 08:14 AM

Im thinking of getting a sinoloan to set up as a display animal. My question is probably directed more towards those that have their animals in cages rather then tubs. Im curious how active or shy they are in general? Ive had a cal king that was always active it seemed, and very inquisitive. In fact, when I would walk in the room or she would hear me shuffling around quite often she would stick her head out to check things out... coming out of her hide to investigate ... a natural curiosity.

Ive heard that milks are very shy and if so will stay hidden much of the time in a decorative type display cage.

Would you guys say this to be true??

That I would!!......secretive by nature, and mostly nocturnal. This is what they are genetically/instincfully "hard-wired" to do.

You can still see them out and about now and then, but out in the open display animals they ain't.

Thats what I thought .... I guess Ill go back to looking for a nice getula which is what I was originally thinking anyway. The post below with that nice big sinoloan got me to thinking I might want to change my mind! lol ...

That sinoloan is SMOKING!

Yeah, once they become larger, many won't be quite as secretive either as they were when they were very young. They are BIG-TIME secretive and nervous when they are young and much smaller. I find that most adult milks aren't so bad when they are larger, and they seem to feel less threatened by being in more opened cage environment, but will still hide fairly often if they are given adequate hiding places.

I have to agree, that sinaloan and many other types of milks are VERY gorgeous animals.

She's no Sinoloan but my Black Milk is often out in the open... as she was moments ago when I snapped this pic. Perhaps someone with an adult Sinoloan in a display cage will speak up... you there Nate?

As Doug has said her comfort level with being in the open has increased with her growth. She's five now and has been strolling about her enclosure at her ease for perhaps the last two years.

Even in her hide she will often poke her head out when I first get home or mucking about near her... cooking up some buffalo wings will always get her out in the open.
