I think my dragons dieing

troy13 Sep 27, 2003 08:45 AM

ok, I have 2 beardies 1 is 3-4 months old (the male) and the other is 5 months old (the female). I have them in the same cage, a 30 gal. They have been living in the same space for a month and a half now. Recently I have noticed that the female is not eating very regularly, maybe eating 1 or 2 crickets a day and no greens. She still takes water though. But yesterday I came home from work and noticed she was sleeping, this is strange for me because I have never seen her sleep in the early evening. The male is thriving and has surpassed her in size quite quickly in the past month. What can I do?

Thanks

Give them their own tanks..... he could be dominating her and getting most of the food. You might also want to get them in for fecal checks. Double check your tank temps, etc.

But.... if you say he is fine and eating like a pig and growing like he is, I am pretty sure he is making her submissive.

I hope she gets better. What Lisa suggested is right. Even if it's a large sized Rubbermaid for now. You need separate housing for them. Males can do a job on the females and cause them to really suffer. Set up a large Rubbermaid temporarily with the proper lighting and temps until you can get a permanent setup for her. Keep her hydrated, and see if she will eat at all. You might have to call a vet for her if she is in bad shape. I really hope your female does not die. Good Luck with her.

Mystical Dragons

Even a smaller Dragon can Dominate! I have seen this just the other day.

Two dragons, both females. The smaller one was put in a cage with a larger one, (the larger one has been in the cage for over a month) Well, the larger one went and bit the small one right away but the small one stood it's ground and opened it's mouth etc.
Now the small one head bobs, takes top on the basking rock, etc.
The Larger one, arm waves, lays low, and does the slow head movements.
Go figure, right. It has more to do with attitude than size (to a limit).

So like they said, separate & get a fecal. That will put you in the right direction.

Good luck.
